Robert Half is looking for a talented, accurate Staff Accountant to fill a permanent position within an innovative company. As a Staff Accountant, you will be in charge of preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. You will also be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. You will lend your skills in assisting the development and implementation of accounting policies. In addition, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. This position is very involved as it will produce Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This company, based in the Ames, Iowa area, offers a challenging and multi-faceted opportunity where effort is rewarded.
Major responsibilities
• Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules
• Maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls. Also ensure that accounting procedures comply with GAAP
• Assemble journal entries and thorough account reconciliations that include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll
• In-depth experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations
• Participate in various department-wide initiatives
• Recurring journal entries maintenance and reconciliation
• Manage intercompany reconciliation, billings, and transactions
• Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for management reporting
• Maintain fixed asset ledgers, depreciation, and reconciliation
• Perform the month end close and produce journal entries under minimal supervision
• Upon request, take part in special projects and impromptu reporting
• Assist in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
• Analyze and coordinate a variety of financial data, and report it in a useful and understandable manner
Requirements
• ERP system experience
• Proficient with spreadsheets and databases
• Earlier work involving financial auditing
• Good understanding of year end closings
• Quality experience with Activity Reports
• Create Reports experience
• Practical knowledge of Accounting operations
• Accounts Payable (AP) experience desired
• Wide ranging experience with month end closings
• General familiarity with Full Cycle Payroll
• Well-founded grasp of Accounting procedures
• Proficiency in Account Balance
• Proven knowledge of Accounting Software Systems
• Foundational knowledge in Complete Expense Reports
• Accounts Receivable (AR) experience preferred
• 2+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
• Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
• Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
• BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
• Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines
• Spreadsheet and database capabilities
• Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
• Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
• Fully formed organizational, written and verbal communication skills
