Full job description
Broad Functions:
Under direct supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant is responsible for all functions related to the recording of cash receipts and revenue, including ticket sales, donations and investment activity for The Bushnell. Assists the Controller and VP Finance with respect to cash management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews daily Box Office reports and resolves any discrepancies with Box Office personnel. Records Box Office sales entries.
Reconciles and records donation cash receipts to appropriate revenue and pledge receivable accounts.
Records all other cash receipts, including receptions, commissions and investments.
Monitors bank account activity daily to share account balances, clear checks, resolve positive pay decisions and communicate with appropriate staff about activity. Works with the Controller and/or VP Finance to manage cash and facilitate transfers between accounts.
Completes bank reconciliations.
Reconciles, records and deposits all cash and petty cash activity.
Prepares weekly sales reports.
Records monthly entries for recording and relieving deferred revenue and prepaid expenses for shows.
Reconciles Connecticut entertainment tax liability account. Submits tax payment biweekly and files annual CT-941 tax return.
Records and reconciles all investment activity related to our endowment, charitable trusts and Broadway productions.
Maintains general ledger account reconciliations as ongoing part of duties and as directed by the Controller. General Ledger reconciliations include, but are not limited to, contributed revenue and pledge receivable, Box Office sales and liability accounts, and entertainment tax.
Assists Controller with month-end and year-end closing entries.
Provide necessary lead schedules and supporting work papers to the outside auditing firm as it relates to the year-end audit.
Provides administrative support to the Finance Department, including proficiency in other Finance position procedures to provide back-up for any Finance position.
Performs other duties and specials projects as assigned.
Duties and responsibilities listed above extend to other affiliates or partners of The Bushnell (including but not limited to: Warner Theatre & Hartford Symphony Orchestra).
Education, Experience and Skills:
College degree (accounting or finance major preferred) and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent computer (all Microsoft Office products) skills.
Ability to understand accounting principles.
Ability to use accounting software.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Must be articulate, organized, and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to work successfully within a team environment and strongly represent The Bushnell to both internal and external customers.
