POSITION
We are seeking a temporary to permanent Staff Accountant with a payroll background. This is a 6-month temporary position with a potential to permanent located in Edmonton, AB. There is flexibility on the hours between 20-40 hours per week structured around required deadlines and deliverables. This is an ideal position for a professional who needs work-life balance at the moment with the intention of transitioning into a full-time permanent position in 6 months.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable, Employee Expense processing, General Accounting
Ensure three-way match and necessary approvals are in place before processing vendor invoices in ERP system; checking PO is funded and receiving is complete in system, work with cross-functional stakeholders as appropriate to resolve any issues
Set up new vendors in ERP vendor master, support and collaborate with Controller/ Purchasing as required; ensure vendor early pay discounts are pursued
Process A/P batches on a just-in-time basis, ensuring vendor accounts are paid within terms including regular reviews of vendor statements, investigating and raising issues to management as they arise
Complete payment processing for vendors and employee expenses and ensure dual-approval control is followed
High vigilance in relation to payment fraud, social engineering and cybersecurity awareness; staying continuously up-to-date with latest developments in technology and industry
Support Controller/ VP Finance on general accounting duties, including but not limited to bank reconciliation, cash receipts, intercompany, fixed assets, account reconciliations, journal entries as required across group of companies (cross training will be provided)
Support on various general accounting tasks, cross train as needed across group of companies to ensure proper vacation coverage and rebalancing of tasks among team members
Any other duties as directed by Controller, GM, VP Finance or senior management
Payroll Processing
Accurate and timely end-to-end processing of multiple payrolls within group of companies, including but not limited to:
Verifying new hire set up and terminations, and other payroll and benefit entries, reconciliations, payroll accounting data entry, posting journal entries and submitting payment requests
Process new hires/ changes/ terminations in ERP, ADP, benefits providers, head office and request ROEs in ADP as appropriate
Receive and enter daily timesheets using ERP system, support continuous improvement initiative on electronic gathering of timesheet data
Balance and validate time entry on a weekly/ bi-weekly basis; process payroll using ERP system and ADP WFN
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, including payroll data and benefits enrollment information
Complete payment of invoices for shop DSPs/ 3rd party subcontractors
Review, receive and code/ job cost timesheets in a timely and accurate manner
Complete payment batch for DSPs once the batch is Controller & GM approved
Ensuring compliance with all payroll and benefits-related legal and regulatory requirements
Processing and verifying multi-province WCB remittances, union remittances/ reports, employee status changes, ROEs or employment verifications for employees as requested
Support continuous improvement initiatives, cross-training opportunities and/ or any other payroll project as directed by management across group of companies
Any other duties as directed by Controller, GM, VP Finance or senior management
