Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service.
Full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service at the time of filing.

DEFINITION:
Heads a steam fitting and refrigeration unit comprised of journey and sub-journey level steam and refrigeration workers where no higher level supervisor in the craft is present or supervises and participates in the work of a crew of steam fitter and refrigeration positions under the direction of a higher level steam fitter and refrigeration supervisor or acts as first assistant to a higher level supervisor in charge of a steam fitting and refrigeration section.
Plans, supervises and inspects the work of steam fitters, refrigeration mechanics, other skilled craft workers, apprentices and helpers in the installation, maintenance and repair of boilers, steam lines, heating and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration equipment.
Supervises the periodic inspection, maintenance and repair of steam operated kitchen, laundry and sterilizing equipment, heating and air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment.
Lays out jobs; determines labor, material and time requirements; schedules and assigns work.
Ascertains that code requirements and safety regulations are followed.
Performs journey-level work in the installation, maintenance and repair of steam lines and equipment, heating and air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment.
Prepares labor and material estimates and requisitions for tools, materials and supplies; keeps time and material cost records.
Drives automotive equipment to work sites.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Two (2) years of journey-level experience in steam fitting, or in the installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, six (6) months of which must have included experience in both crafts.
LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License is required in order to carry out job-related essential functions.
License Information: Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a legible photocopy of his/her driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed. A legible photocopy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment. License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Credit will be given to applicants who possess experience in steam fitting, or in the installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment beyond the Minimum Requirements.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of two parts:
Part I: An evaluation of education and experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 50%.
Part II: An Appraisal of Promotability which will evaluate Knowledge/Skills and Abilities, Problem Solving, Written and Oral Communication, Dependability and Supervision, weighted 50%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be added to the eligible register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.
SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
