About the role….
We are seeking to recruit a Stop Smoking Advisor to work within our Public Health Team, delivering tailored, evidence-based stop smoking support predominantly within a hospital setting. This role will be both challenging and rewarding supporting the wider tobacco control agenda and plays a key part of creating an approach to quitting which puts the smoker at the centre and focuses on those most in need.
The post holder will play a vital role in creating a person-centred approach to quitting, ensuring smokers—particularly those from priority population groups—receive the right support at the right time.
The role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams and healthcare professionals within secondary care, providing specialist advice, guidance and support on stop smoking services to patients, professionals, visitors and members of the public. A strong knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to smokers is essential, alongside the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
You will play a key role in ‘Helping smokers to quit’ by ensuring our stop smoking service is targeted to priority population groups, as well as liaising and working with partners to promote and encourage appropriate referrals. The role will require effective partnership working across health and community settings to ensure services are accessible and targeted to those most in need.
The post will include setting up, coordinating and delivering stop smoking interventions within secondary care and community settings as required. You will deliver evidence-based behaviour change interventions through face-to-face and telephone consultations, ensuring conversations are tailored to individual needs.
The successful candidate will have experience of working within stop smoking services or a related behaviour change role, with a proven ability to deliver person-centred interventions to individuals and groups. Experience of partnership working is essential.
You will hold a relevant professional qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) or have significant experience working within smoking cessation or behaviour change. National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Level 2 training is desirable. The role requires accurate record keeping using designated clinical and team systems, as well as the ability to work flexibly across settings. An enhanced DBS check is required. This role is on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity until 31 January 2027.
