Full-time Term - Summer Camp
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible to the Executive Director and directly supervised by the Facility and Support Supervisor, The Day Camp Leader will provide a safe and welcoming environment for children of all ages staying in the shelter. Be responsible for promoting the positive emotional, physical, social, and cognitive development of children by planning and implementing high quality of programs and activities to meet the developmental needs of young children and maintain a hygienic and safe environment. To provide guidance and behavior management which promotes positive self-esteem in children. We are a trauma-informed environment and support the principals of a strength based, client focused environment. Understand we are a crisis shelter and our children may have been exposed to very stressful or violent situations, which can result in a variety of behavioral issues. This is a Canada Summer Job funded position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Is between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
· Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred
. Must have a valid SIN (Social Insurance Number)
· Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
· An equivalent combination of education and experience
· Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with children
· Good time management
· Flexible to work with multiple ages of children
· Good problem solving and analytical skills
· Satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry and Criminal Record Check
PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
· Design and follow a full schedule of activities using a wide range of educational and recreational activities for the months of June and August.
· In the designing of the program, include a list of all supplies and equipment needed to implement all programming.
· Facilitate age appropriate activities.
· Ensure children in your care are safe and learning appropriate social behaviors in a manner that helps them learn self-regulation and respect of others.
· Ensure the environment is clean and safe.
· Encourage healthy intellectual and physical growth of children in our facility.
· Creating a balance between logical and social exercises.
· Providing basic care and care giving activities.
· Observe children’s interactions and promote positive communication and problem solving.
· Identify any behavioral problems and determine a right course of action.
· Organize learning materials and resources.
· Communicate and work with any staff or volunteer that has previously planned a children’s activity.
· Daily reporting of the children in attendance and all required documentation.
· Maintain agency confidence and protected operations by keeping all information confidential.
