Mō te tūranga | About the Role
We’re on the lookout for three experienced and energetic support staff to be part of a dedicated team of four supporting Susie as she settles into her new home in Christchurch near the Hōhepa main campus.
Susie is 49 years old, vibrant, social, and full of life. With a great sense of humour and a love for connecting with others, she brings joy to those around her. She has travelled the world, and her parents now live in Vanuatu. Susie lived with them until late last year, when she came to New Zealand and is moving to Christchurch from Tauranga.
Susie enjoys keeping her home clean and tidy and takes pride in her cooking and baking. Her interests are wide-ranging and include playing Uno, creating art, bowling, golf, and swimming. She’s a talented swimmer who has qualified multiple times for the National Special Olympics team.
Routine and consistency are key to helping Susie feel safe and settled in her new environment. Since undergoing surgery in late 2024, she has experienced some changes in her behaviour, and there may be times when she feels distressed. Because of this, it’s important that her team is calm, confident, and skilled in providing reassurance and support during these moments.
Susie will be supported through a dedicated one-to-one service, known as Fantail, as she feels most comfortable and secure when she has the full attention of her support person.
In this role you will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside this person focussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space.
Daily tasks include supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people’s ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.
This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.50 and $29.10 per hour.

Total hands-on hours: 37.5 | Sleepover hours: 42.5
