Job Description

Grant Thornton Australia is a member firm of the Grant Thornton global network – one of the world's leading independently-owned and managed accounting, advisory and consulting firms.

In Australia, we’re proud to support the careers of over 1,500 remarkable people. With six offices nationally and partner firms in more than 145 markets, wherever you want to go, we can take you there.

Our Sustainability Centre of Excellence team works proactively with our business and our clients in the interpretation, application and strategic impact of local and international sustainability reporting standards and regulatory requirements, including the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (AASB S1 & S2) and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards.

The team supports client-facing teams from multiple parts of the business, helping to work through complex sustainability reporting issues, developing and providing training to clients and teams, developing publications for internal and external use, and assisting teams in reviewing sustainability reports and client deliverables for technical compliance. Team members also work directly with clients to support their understanding of the complexities of the sustainability issues.

With the recent passage of mandatory climate-related financial disclosures legislation in Australia, the team has a strong focus on upskilling internal teams across all specialisations in sustainability-related matters and providing education services to clients to support their preparation to report.

Key Responsibilities

Draft publications in relation to sustainability reporting issues;
Assist in the development and delivery of technical training based on business and client needs;
Assist in the development of technical tools and work programs supporting implementation of sustainability reporting for our clients;
Conduct research and analysis of the latest developments in sustainability reporting standards, legislation or regulations;
Conduct research and analysis of the application of current and/or proposed sustainability reporting standards, legislation or regulations to specific scenarios;
Assist in undertaking pre-issuance reviews of sustainability reports for compliance with disclosure and sustainability reporting requirements;
Work collaboratively with our clients and other teams in the Grant Thornton business to support consideration of sustainability-related risks and opportunities in all aspects of accounting, assurance, taxation and advisory services.

There is also opportunity to grow your expertise on specific technical sustainability reporting topics though involvement in specific subject matter focus groups in the Grant Thornton International network (e.g. greenhouse gas emissions accounting, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, CSRD).

Skills And Experience

You have:

Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills – with the capability to independently analyse and interpret complex information, and suggest potential solutions with your rationale;
Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail – with the capability to independently prepare high-quality deliverables and present to leadership for review.
Deep interest in sustainability reporting, and its continued development locally and internationally.

You are:

Naturally inquisitive and actively seek out opportunities for growth, and for continuous learning and technical development;
A collaborative team player willing to be challenged, share ideas, and learn together
Comfortable with a continually evolving sustainability landscape where no two days are the same.

Knowledge of sustainability reporting or related frameworks, such as AASB S1 and AASB S2, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, TCFD, ESRS, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol or GRI is beneficial but is not required. Similarly, familiarity with financial accounting will be beneficial but is not required for the right candidate.

This role is primarily skills-based and is not restricted to applications with particular technical backgrounds. To be considered for this opportunity, your diverse qualifications, skills & experience might include examples such as:
