We are Looking to Add a Key Member to Our Tax Team!
The Tax Accounting Leader is responsible for managing the Tax Accounting Team with emphasis on internal reporting, team building, and timely delivery to GreatAmerica customers and team members. The Tax Accounting Leader is also responsible for personnel development and for design, development, and execution of strategic compliance initiatives and processes. This role requires a person that is self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical in decision making and strong problem-solving skills, and a leader who fosters team collaboration and is an influential leader of others. The Tax Accounting Leader will make decisions to ensure we achieve targets for customer service, productivity, and team member engagement and assist in assuring the tax department’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws pertaining to sales/use tax, property tax, income and franchise taxes. This individual should proactively analyze tax impact to core business process of GreatAmerica with an emphasis on quality control, process improvement and risk mitigation. Additionally, this individual should be proficient in analyzing tax statutory changes and quantifying the impact of changing legislation. This role will aid in the development of tax team members through formal coaching, mentoring, and identification and execution of business strategic initiatives.
As a Tax Accounting Leader, you will:
Function as a key point of contact for business operations; understand priorities of various corporate, business unit, and functional leadership.
Review analysis and accuracy of information/documents gathered to support tax reporting and assist with resolution of inconsistencies and/or issues.
Review complex spreadsheets/worksheets for compliance, advisory projects, and audits by federal, state, provincial, and local taxing jurisdictions.
Lead advanced, specialized, as well as routine tax audits; provide guidance and coaching to less experienced team members on audit completion and coordinate day to day work.
Summarize audit findings, review with company leadership and coordinate changes to processes where necessary to mitigate future tax risk.
Oversee account reconciliation process including resolution of discrepancies and identification of potential process improvements and/or efficiencies.
Function as a subject matter expert on tax technical issues; in coordination with tax leadership; complete complex tax law research, review research completed by others and utilize the completed research for compliance management and strategic initiative execution.
Evaluate prospective business opportunities and programs from all tax perspectives, serving as a liaison for the group to other teams and senior leadership.
Provide formal coaching and feedback to staff and interns; identify and communicate challenging work that will provide development opportunities, interaction with management to ensure personnel alignment and recognize individual performance of team members.
Assist with annual income tax provision and financial statement reporting processes including applicability of ASC 740 principals.
Ensure processes and procedures are in place for accurate and timely tax administration and represent the company in all instances of tax audit defense.
Review tax returns for accuracy and completeness; assist with analysis of legislative impacts and apply specific federal, provincial, and state statutory changes.
Partner with leadership to identify and drive implementation of strategic tax opportunities.
Monitor team resource needs; effectively summarize and communicate updates to resource needs to internal leadership
Provide outstanding GreatAmerica Experience for external as well as internal customers and act as a role model for the team in providing that experience.
To be successful in this role you will need:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Equivalent experience will be considered.
Experience
Ideal candidate will have seven years or more of tax experience.
Candidates with a combination of tax technical background and proven leadership ability will be considered.
Prior income tax experience preferred.
Computer Skills
Microsoft Office (strong Microsoft Excel skills), research software (RIA, CCH) preferred, tax preparation software (Sales Tax, Property Tax, Income Tax) preferred.
