Tax Preparation Accountant (Full-Time, In-Office)
Location: Chicago, IL
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000

While the bulk of our current workload is tax preparation, we’re actively building out our bookkeeping and accounting services. Position Overview
We’re seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Tax Preparation Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in individual and small business tax prep, especially using Drake Tax. Most of the role will focus on tax work, with light admin tasks during peak times. As we expand our services, there's room for growth into bookkeeping or other accounting functions.
Core Responsibilities
· Prepare and review individual and business tax returns (primarily 1040s and Schedule Cs)
· Accurately input and verify client data in Drake Tax
· Assist with administrative tasks during peak times (e.g., document intake, checklist tracking)
· Collaborate with the team to ensure smooth operations during busy season
Preferred / Ideal Candidate Responsibilities
· Communicate with clients via email and phone to collect or clarify documentation
· Help improve or develop internal processes for tax prep or client communication
· Contribute to expanding the firm’s accounting and bookkeeping service offerings
· Participate in quality control or light review of returns
Core Qualifications
· 2+ years of tax preparation experience
· Working knowledge of individual and small business tax forms
· Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
Preferred / Ideal Candidate Qualifications
· Experience with Drake Tax
· Exposure to Schedule E, 1120S, or other entity returns
· Bookkeeping experience
· Familiarity with cloud-based tools like ShareFile, Google Workspace, etc.
· Comfortable communicating with clients in a professional, approachable manner
· Interest in longer-term growth with a small but growing firm
