The School

Roebourne District High School (RDHS) is seeking an innovative and relationship-focused teacher to join our team as a Connected Learning Teacher, leading Two-Way Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning for students in Years 1 to 8.

This is an opportunity to work in a school rethinking how students engage with learning by connecting curriculum, culture, Country and community. The successful applicant will play a key role in designing learning experiences that build student identity, curiosity and success through hands-on, authentic education.

RDHS is a K to12 district high school in the Pilbara region, working in strong partnership with families, Aboriginal advisors and community organisations to ensure learning is relevant, culturally responsive and grounded in local context.

The Role

The Connected Learning Teacher plans and delivers STEM learning that integrates Western Australian Curriculum outcomes with Aboriginal knowledge, inquiry learning and real-world application.

The role focuses on building student confidence and engagement through practical, collaborative learning experiences connected to local environments and lived experiences. A central component of the position is strengthening relationships with parents, carers and local Aboriginal communities to co-develop culturally responsive programs that support both wellbeing and achievement.

Key responsibilities of this role Include:

Integrating Western science and technology with local knowledge, culture and learning on Country.
Designing hands-on inquiry and project-based learning experiences.
Work alongside the school’s Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) team and local Aboriginal community members to embed cultural and ecological knowledge into programs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to align Connected Learning with classroom practice.
Support student engagement through flexible and responsive teaching approaches.
Develop partnerships with families, Aboriginal advisors and local organisations.
Contribute to whole-school improvement priorities aligned to the RDHS Business Plan.
Support staff to build confidence in practical STEM teaching approaches.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Roebourne District high School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $1 170 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
