The opportunity

As our Team Leader Development Planning, you will lead the processing of private plan changes and appeals related to the District Plan Review. You will also oversee the delivery of Council’s residential developer liaison programme, ensuring strong relationships with developers and timely, accurate advice.

This is a newly created role, giving you the opportunity to influence development outcomes, strengthen partnerships, and guide a high‑performing team while contributing to district‑wide planning.

What you’ll be responsible for

Leading the coordination of private plan changes and Environment Court appeal processes.
Delivering the Council’s residential developer liaison programme.
Ensuring reports and recommendations meet best practice and legislative requirements.
Coordinating internal and external planning resources across development planning projects.
Providing clear communication to stakeholders, elected members and community groups.
Mentoring and guiding Principal and Senior Planners.
Representing Council at hearings, meetings and engagement forums.

About you

Relevant tertiary qualification in planning, resource management or a related field (Level 7+).
Approximately 9–10 years’ planning experience.
Strong experience in development planning, plan changes, or consenting.
Proven ability to manage complex workflows and deadlines.
Confident communicator with strong negotiation and relationship‑building skills.
Adaptable, solutions‑focused and able to support others through change.
Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to bring out the best in others.
