An exciting opportunity has become available for the position of Team Leader Livestock Exchange, at Forbes Shire Council at the Central West Livestock Exchange.

Reporting directly to the Supervisor Saleyards, the Team Leader Livestock Exchange will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Central West Livestock Exchange (CWLE) including allocation of work tasks to employees, best practice animal welfare practices and the general maintenance and upkeep of the yards ensuring presentation of a high standard.

Working both independently and as part of a highly motivated team, you will work to achieve timely and appropriate outcomes on an exciting range of projects.

Essential

Tertiary Qualified (or ability to obtain) Certificate III Agriculture
Demonstrated experience in the Livestock industry
Demonstrated experience and understanding of Chain of Responsibility compliance in the Saleyards industry
Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to communicate with the Saleyards team, internal and external stakeholders and management
High level conflict resolution skills and demonstrated negotiation skills
Experience in working effectively and demonstrating leadership in a team environment.
Demonstrated understanding of risk management and WHS.
Class C (Standard) Drivers Licence; and
NSW weapons licence (or able to gain).
Experience

Proven experience in the livestock or agriculture industry with exposure and experience in livestock exchange operations
Knowledge of the local government sector or another statutory / regulatory environment is desirable
A working knowledge of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
Demonstrated understanding of legislation associated with statutory livestock and operational facilities management; and
Tickets and accreditations to operate appropriate machinery and equipment.
Authority and Accountability

Worker level responsibilities regarding WHS legislation; and
Financial delegation as per Council’s delegation register.

Shortlisting - The selection panel (usually 3 members) will assess all applications against the selection criteria contained in the position description. The panel will then decide which applicants best meet the criteria and will call for interview.
Interview - You will be given at least 2-days' notice if you are required for an interview. The interview panel will consist of either 3 or 4 members, one of which will be the HR Facilitator, who will work with the panel to recommend the most suitable person for the position.
Reference checks and other checks - Referee checks will be carried out on the recommended applicant/s. Positions that have been identified as child-related, will be required to undergo a Working with Children Check through the Office of Children's Guardian NSW
Pre-employment Functional Assessment - The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment functional assessment at Council’s expense. This will include a Functional Assessment, urine Drug and ******* Testing and a hearing screen
Notification of the result - The successful applicant will be verbally notified as soon as possible after the interview and will receive a written letter of offer via email and in the post. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once the offer of employment has been accepted and Council has been formally notified of the acceptance.
