Job description
Introduction

This Invitation to Tender (ITT) is issued by the London Diocesan Fund (LDF) on behalf of the City Deanery to solicit proposals from qualified consultants. The primary objective of this tender is to appoint a consultant who will carry out Energy Audits for churches in the Square Mile and involve up to 10 volunteers in the preparation, deliver and reporting of those audits. Further involvement in a career’s day giving secondary school children the opportunity to understand the energy audit process is also required. This forms part of a wider project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund: ‘Square Mile churches: towards a sustainable future’.

Overall Project Aims

The Diocese of London is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. We are seeking a consultant with extensive experience in energy efficiency, sustainability, and heritage buildings to support our ambition. This role involves conducting Energy Audits, engaging with volunteers, and inspiring students at Careers Days.

Key Responsibilities

Energy Audits

Prepare Energy and Carbon Audits for 28 participating churches, adhering to the Church of England Parish Buying Audit standard format.
Conduct enhanced audits for six additional churches, incorporating supplementary scope items such as heating appraisals, 3D scanning, and additional building audits.
Provide comprehensive reports identifying viable carbon reduction projects to inform the area deanery’s Net Zero Carbon plan and fundraising strategy.

Volunteer Engagement

Train up to 10 volunteers in energy auditing, including heritage research, energy data analysis, operational insights, building assessments, and report drafting.
Provide hands-on experience in sustainability and heritage energy solutions.

Careers Day for Key Stage 4 Students

Participate in two Careers Days aimed at students aged 14–16, showcasing energy efficiency techniques and encouraging careers in sustainability and heritage.
Deliver interactive demonstrations, career insights, and hands-on activities.

Requirements

Extensive experience in energy audits, particularly for heritage buildings such as churches.
Ability to produce detailed, actionable energy audit reports.
Experience in volunteer training and engagement.
Strong communication skills to inspire and educate students about sustainability and heritage careers.
Deliverables

Standard and enhanced Energy Audit reports for participating churches.
Training sessions and guidance for volunteers.
Contributions to two Careers Days, including demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Desirable Skills

Familiarity with Church of England energy auditing standards.
Expertise in low-carbon heating strategies and renewable energy potential.
Proficiency in using 3D scanning technologies for building assessments.
