The Role:
Oxfam GB is looking for a new UK Government Relations Adviser to cultivate and hold Oxfam’s relationships with UK parliamentarians, and contribute to Oxfam’s UK political strategy.

This role will be responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of effective influencing of UK Government and Parliament, including maintaining Oxfam’s relationships with key parliamentary targets, and creating innovative opportunities for advocacy and relationship-building with targets.

The role monitors external political developments and produces political analyses across Oxfam issues. It contributes to strategic planning, direction, evaluation and reporting of UK political advocacy across Oxfam’s priorities. This role will be required to be flexible across Oxfam’s issues, but will be focused on delivering the political objectives of our humanitarian context campaigns. This work is currently focused on the crisis in Gaza and root cause issues affecting Palestinians across the occupied territory.

The successful candidate will produce high-quality briefings for parliamentarians and Oxfam senior staff, and support the development of submissions for external inquiries.

Adherence to Oxfam’s principles and values including the promotion of gender justice and anti-racism is essential.

The salary for this role is £36,826 - £48,136FTE plus an additional £4,121 London weighting allowance.

Our next UK Government Relations Adviser will have:
A thorough understanding of parliamentary procedure and the UK political scene, based on significant first-hand experience of working at or around Westminster
Strong interpersonal skills, including negotiation skills and self-awareness, and proven ability to build sound relationships with multiple stakeholders
Ability to think strategically and apply this to advocacy planning and delivery
Experience of analysing complex information and situations and communicating this to others clearly, in writing and verbally
Ability to prioritise and manage high workloads in a fast-changing environment.

In addition, it is desirable that the successful candidate with have:
Knowledge or experience of working on policy or influencing related to humanitarian contexts such as Palestine
Experience of successfully delivering change through advocacy and campaigning
Familiarity with Scottish Parliament and Senedd policies and processes
Lived experiences with intersecting systems of oppression, with knowledge and experience of how power and privilege play out.
