Key Responsibilities:
• Financial Reporting:
• Prepare and review year-end financial statements in compliance with UK accounting standards (UK GAAP, IFRS).
• Ensure that all journal entries, accruals, and adjustments are correctly recorded to reflect the financial performance of the organization for the year.
• Work closely with auditors to facilitate a smooth year-end audit process and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
• Finalize and submit year-end accounts and financial statements to the relevant authorities (Companies House, HMRC, etc.).
• Tax Compliance:
• Ensure all year-end tax returns, including Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE, and other relevant tax filings, are completed on time and accurately.
• Prepare documentation for tax audits or reviews and liaise with tax advisors to ensure full compliance with UK tax laws.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and ensure the business complies with all updates.
• Year-End Closing Process:
• Lead the year-end closing process, ensuring all financial transactions are completed and recorded accurately by the year-end date.
• Perform reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
• Analyze financial data to support decision-making and assist senior management in understanding the financial results.
• Internal Control and Compliance:
• Ensure that internal controls are followed during the year-end process to safeguard company assets and financial data.
• Work with the finance team to ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant financial regulations and standards, including GDPR when handling personal or sensitive financial data.
• Reporting & Analysis:
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans for the upcoming year.
• Provide financial analysis and insights based on year-end data to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Prepare year-end management reports for senior leadership.
• Audit Coordination:
• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors during the year-end audit process.
• Provide requested documentation and explanations to auditors in a timely manner.
• Assist with the preparation of the audit pack and ensure all supporting schedules are accurate and complete.
• Stakeholder Communication:
• Collaborate with department heads and other key stakeholders to ensure financial data is correctly reflected.
• Ensure that all necessary financial and non-financial information is provided for decision-making at the year-end.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Education: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification preferred).
• Experience: Previous experience in year-end financial reporting, audit, or finance roles (2-3 years or more in a similar position).
• Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (UK GAAP or IFRS).
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with financial reporting and tax software is a plus.
• Knowledge: Understanding of UK tax regulations and reporting requirements (Corporation Tax, VAT, etc.).
• Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to analyze large volumes of financial data and identify discrepancies.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with auditors, senior management, and other stakeholders.
• Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines, and work under pressure during the busy year-end period.
Working Conditions:
• This role is typically office-based, but remote work may be possible depending on the company.
• The job will involve long hours during the year-end period, particularly in the lead-up to filing deadlines.
