JOB SUMMARY
The City of Lakewood partners with Volunteers of America to offer a congregate meal site program for the older adult population. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the dining site to include supervising volunteers that support the meal site operations.

A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position).
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains all data required by the VOA to include, but not limited to participant and volunteer forms, documentation of meals served, participant contributions, meal fees, computer log sheets, temperature compliance and meal reports.
Maintains standards that meet Jefferson County Health Department requirements.
-Trains and supervises Dining Site volunteers- cross-training volunteers to serve as back up to other Dining Site Volunteer positions to ensure seamless operation.
Maintains accurate records of volunteer hours, reporting in accordance with established Older Adult Programs procedures.
Ensures confidentiality when maintaining volunteer and participant information and files.
Maintains the Dining Site to assure compliance with federal, state, and local policies and regulations concerning sanitation and safety.
Performs Dining Site participant satisfaction survey, submitting results to VOA and to Recreation Programmer-Adult
Plans and coordinates appropriate activities for Dining Site participants.
Is consistently aware of and maintains appropriate relationship boundaries with participants and volunteers.
Prepares and submits all Clements Community Center and Dining Site volunteer reports in a timely manner.
Hours of Work
Monday through Thursday – 20 to 25 hours per week
Important Functions
Responsible for daily cleaning of dining Site area.
Participates as an active team member by attending staff meetings and supporting programs and activities.

Supervision Given: Volunteers to the meal site program
Essential Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Experience working or assisting with participants 55+ (preferred)
Experience leading or assisting groups of varying sizes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and fellow employees, participants, and caregivers.
Ability to solve practical problems in a variety of situations.
Ability to interpret and understand instructions, both written and oral.
Ability to interact with participants in an appropriate manner.
Ability to give clear verbal and written direction to groups of various sizes.
Ability to deal effectively with emergency situations.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
Must be able to work within a team environment.
Ability to relate well with older adults, staff, and the general public.
Ability to work independently, use good judgment and effective negotiation/problem solving skills.
Must be able to determine when to ask for assistance to include dealing with difficult participants and the public.
Ability to maintain sense of humor while dealing with a variety of situations and individuals.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Must be able to move quickly from one task to another and on occasion must be able to execute more than one task at a time.
Ability to adapt and respond quickly to the ever changing needs of older adults, the public and to chaotic situations.
Ability to effectively manage time due to diversity of work and frequent interruptions.
Must have skills in organizing, assigning tasks, and supervising Dining Site volunteers.
Background check is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting and Carrying
Must be able to lift and arrange chairs weighing from 3 pounds to 5 pounds.
Must be able to lift and carry food containers, boxes, supplies, and various equipment weighing 40 pounds.
Pushing and Pulling
Twisting and reaching are required when storing equipment and preparing for meals.
Body Positions
Sits at desk for administrative and clerical responsibilities. Stands, walks, and travels in vehicle to attend meetings and other activities outside the Clements center. Position requires the ability to input medium amounts of data using repetitive motion in a constant manner.
Hearing
Must be able to hear and respond to the telephone, participants, staff, and the public for communication purposes.
Vision
Must use vision to read typed and hand written material, forms, reports, when using the computer when coordinating all Dining Site activities including set up and take down.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Mathematics
Must have basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication skills for calculating, bookkeeping, and clerical functions at the Dining Site.
Remembering
Must remember projects and activities occurring simultaneously for purposes of carrying out assignments.
Must remember federal, state, and local sanitation policies and procedures, and Volunteers of America policies and procedures related to the operation of the Dining Site to ensure compliance.
Language Ability
Must be able to read and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations; effectively communicate with the public, participants, and staff.
Reasoning
Must make clear and timely decisions, using sound judgment in response to participants, the public and staff to include emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office environment, Dining Site, located at the Clements Center, an active recreation, service, and rental facility.
Work includes frequent contact with individuals who may be distressed.
Work involves dealing with the public as well as angry, frustrated, and confused older adults.
