Job Description

The Victim Liaison Officer will support the region’s restorative justice teams in delivering effective and efficient restorative justice processes, including activities relating to engagement and communication with victims who have had their matters referred to restorative justice conferencing.

The Victim Liaison Officer will support all aspects of the restorative justice process, with a particular focus upon activities to ensure that victims of crime are well informed and well supported throughout the restorative justice process.

Functions of the Victim Liaison Officer may include convening restorative justice conferences and activities associated with pre and post conference activities to support improved efficiency of conferencing referrals.

Key Responsibilities.

As Victim Liaison Officer, you will specifically:

Communicate and engage with victims of crime regarding the referral of their matters to restorative justice conferencing.
Support victims of crime in understanding and preparing for the restorative justice process, including referral to victim support services where required.
Act as a key point of contact for victims of crime and ensure they remain well informed regarding the progress of their restorative justice conferencing matters.
Assist the region in managing complex matters pertaining to victims of crime referred to restorative justice conferencing.
Support the region in building and maintaining productive working relationships with victim organisations and other key stakeholders.
Contribute to innovative and improved service delivery outcomes to address the needs of victims of crime.
Convene restorative justice conferences and undertake activities to support improved efficiency and effectiveness of conferencing processes.
Prepare data, case notes, briefs, plans, correspondence and other departmental reports in a timely and professional manner, consistent with departmental guidelines.


Role Specific

You understand the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have a demonstrated ability to engage and communicate with humility and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly develop proficiency in organisational specific programs and databases. You have capacity to acquire basic knowledge of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other cultures.


Role Requirements

Citizenship/visa: to be employed in a position, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia.
Disclosure of pre-exiting condition: upon written request, an applicant is to disclose prior to their engagement any pre-existing illness or injury that could impact their ability to perform duties of the role or has potential to aggravate a pre-existing illness or injury. It is important to note, that false or misleading disclosure under section 571C of the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 will result in a prospective employee not being entitled to compensation or to seek damages for any event that aggravates the pre-existing injury or medical condition.
A probationary period may apply to successful applicants to permanent roles who are external to the public service (unless advised otherwise), after which time confirmation of appointment will be dependent upon satisfactory performance review.
Successful applicants will be subject to a criminal history check or blue card screening.
Successful applicants who are either a current or previous public sector employee will be required to disclose previous serious disciplinary action taken against them.
Newly appointed public service employees are obliged, within one month of starting duty, to make a disclosure of any employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years.
Applications remain current for 12 months and may be considered for identical or similar vacancies (these may be at a different location).
Applicants who have been paid a voluntary medical retirement, voluntary early retirement, redundancy or retrenchment payment from a Queensland Government entity are required to indicate this in their application.
Travel is a requirement of this position; therefore, it is a requirement that the applicant hold a current Drivers licence.
