Job Description
What difference will you make?
Your contribution will define how supporters experience and connect with the CIC over time. By creating structured, ethical email communications, you will ensure people feel informed, valued, and empowered to participate meaningfully.
Your work will safeguard trust and integrity, reinforcing relationships with volunteers, donors, members, and the wider community. Thoughtfully designed communication journeys will help the CIC retain engagement, support fundraising efforts, and encourage volunteer participation while prioritising dignity, consent, and trauma-informed principles.
Through ongoing monitoring and optimisation, you will improve engagement trends, retention, and satisfaction across audiences. Your systems will provide clarity and consistency, enabling the CIC to scale responsibly without losing its values or mission focus.
This is a founding-level volunteer role with tangible impact. The email workflows and retention strategies you establish will form the backbone of long-term supporter relationships, ensuring continuity, trust, and sustainable growth for the CIC.
What are we looking for?
The ideal volunteer will have practical experience in email marketing, digital communications, or CRM-based engagement. You should be comfortable designing and managing structured email journeys, including welcome sequences, updates, campaign communications, impact reporting, and calls to action.
Experience with email platforms such as Mailchimp, MailerLite, or similar tools, and familiarity with audience segmentation, performance metrics, and lifecycle communication strategies is highly valued. You should understand how timing, tone, and frequency affect trust and engagement and be able to adjust strategy based on performance data and audience feedback.
A strong understanding of data protection, GDPR, safeguarding, and trauma-informed communication is essential. You should be confident maintaining mailing lists, consent records, and accurate data hygiene, and able to flag ethical or safeguarding concerns promptly.
The role requires collaboration skills, working effectively with copywriters, campaign leads, and analysts. Attention to detail, reliability, and ethical judgment are critical, as is comfort in building systems from scratch that are scalable and sustainable.
Experience in non-profit, CIC, or community-led organisations is highly desirable. The volunteer should be values-aligned, prioritising trust, care, and dignity over clicks or metrics. Formal qualifications are not required; equivalent professional or voluntary experience is essential. Motivation to contribute meaningfully, commitment to the CIC’s mission, and willingness to take responsibility for ethical communication are vital.
What will you be doing?
Design, manage, and optimise ethical email communication systems and supporter journeys that strengthen engagement, donor retention, volunteer involvement, and community growth. Build structured, trauma-informed email workflows connecting campaigns, updates, impact reports, and calls to action, ensuring every communication reflects safeguarding and consent principles.
Develop audience segmentation strategies to deliver relevant, respectful, and meaningful messaging to supporters, donors, volunteers, and members. Collaborate with copywriters, campaign teams, and analysts to align content with communication journeys, tone, and timing. Monitor email performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and engagement trends, and adjust strategies based on insights.
Maintain accurate mailing lists, consent records, and data hygiene, ensuring GDPR compliance and ethical data handling. Document processes clearly, create standard operating procedures, and support scalability so systems are not dependent on a single individual. Identify inefficiencies, propose improvements, and flag safeguarding, ethical, or data-related risks promptly.
Support fundraising, campaign communications, and membership engagement through coordinated, responsible messaging. Contribute to the design of long-term supporter relationship and retention systems that build trust and continuity. As a founding volunteer, you will help shape systems from scratch, ensuring they reflect the CIC’s values, mission, and survivor-centred approach.
Your work will provide the backbone for sustainable, ethical communication practices, fostering long-term supporter loyalty and strengthening trust with all audiences.
