Position Description - Youth Collective Committee Officer


Purpose

The YCC Officer will be responsible for coordinating activities, operations and reporting
requirements relevant to the Youth Collective Committee and topical focus groups.

The primary objective of this position is to enable opportunities for young people to
meaningfully engage with Council and ensure their ‘Voice’ is heard on the decisions that affect
them.

The YCC officer will utilise the key findings from the City of Marion’s Youth Plan 2026 - 2027
(currently in draft) to direct the priority work areas and align with relevant themes within the
City of Marion Community Vision – Towards 2040.

The role will embrace opportunities for positive and energetic partnerships together with the
Projects and Partnerships Team, internal City of Marion units, the community, external
organisations, groups, and peak bodies.

Contribute to the development of the YCC model, setting schedules and implementing
effective facilitation of the YCC meetings and activities, strong communication skills and the
ability to maintain solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders will be vital to
this role.

As an ongoing commitment to the organisation, you will be responsible for delivering the best
service to our community and to improve residents’ quality life; continuously, smartly and
efficiently in the scope of your daily work.

Key Deliverables

Deliver meaningful youth development and youth engagement opportunities for
young people to enable increased connection with their community and City of Marion,
(YCC and focus groups).
Enable young people to contribute to the City of Marion’s (CoM) decision making
processes, championing recommendations and outcomes.
Develop internal and external partnerships to enhance the opportunity for young
people’s voice to be heard on issues that affect them.
Build sustainability in youth engagement processes with internal teams across the
CoM.
Develop and/or maintain relationships utilising relevant networks and key
stakeholders to increase communication, awareness, and opportunities.
Implement and measure outcomes against the CoM Youth Plan 2026-2027 and
relevant youth strategies.
Implement relevant marketing and promotion processes, particularly the social media
presence and celebrate achievements.

Maintain records, prepare reports and/or deliver presentations as directed and any
other relevant duties as required.
Person Specification

Essential criteria
A tertiary qualification in Youth Development/Social Sciences or other relevant field or
demonstrated experience.

Advanced communication skills both written and verbal.
High level of skill in youth engagement practices and youth advocacy.
Aware of current issues of importance to young people.
Experience in creating safe and positive environments for young people.
Experience in report writing and delivering presentations.
Experience in project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Experience working with a diverse youth demographic e.g.: ages, abilities, beliefs, and
cultures.
Experience in maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and working with
relevant networks.
Time management, prioritisation, and flexibility in managing workloads.
Maintaining strict confidentiality and display astuteness in a sensitive and political
environment.
Desirable criteria

Accredited additional training undertaken in youth development field will be valued
e.g.: Mental Health First Aid.
Knowledge of the roles and functions of Local Government.
Standard conditions

Satisfactory completion of a National Police Clearance (will be arranged by the City of
Marion)
Satisfactory completion of applicable Medical Assessment (will be arranged by the
City of Marion)
Must be either an Australian resident or possess the legal right to work in Australia,
with the ability to provide documentation of a valid work visa.
Comply with existing Work, Health and Safety legislation and regulation obligations and
apply “Think Safe Live Well” philosophy.

Position Description - Youth Collective Committee Officer

Embrace ethical and moral behavior and report any suspected instances of fraud
and/or corruption in accordance with Fraud and Corruption Management and the
Code of Conduct.
The incumbent will perform other duties as required.
Other conditions specific to the role
• Must hold a valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South Australian

requirements.


This is a prescribed position as defined by the City of Marion Safe Environments for
Children and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Therefore, incumbent must:

o Promote and maintain a child safe environment and take relevant actions in
accordance with council's Safe Environments for Children and Vulnerable
Persons Policy and with legislative requirements under the Children and Young
People (Safety) Act 2017 and the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016.


o Satisfactorily complete a DHS Working with Children Check and Vulnerable
Person Checks (to be renewed every five years) and be willing to undertake Child
Safe Training.
