Position Summary:
We are seeking an Accountant to join our fast-paced team responsible for producing quarterly consolidated financial statements and the Annual Financial Report. This role focuses on supporting the cash reconciliation team, ensuring accurate financial reporting by reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts with the U.S. Department of Treasury's cash accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to Treasury cash accounts.
• Research and resolve any variances.
• Compile monthly and quarterly financial metrics.
• Run and download reports from Treasury systems.
• Update cash balances in spreadsheets to verify cash transfer needs.
• Prepare journal entries for fund movements in the Sponsor's and Treasury's accounting systems.
• Follow OMB Circular A-136 and Treasury Financial Manual (TFM) guidelines.
• Suggest process improvements and efficiencies.
• Conduct research and analysis of variances.
• Communicate unreconciled items to responsible offices.
• Ensure accurate monthly, quarter-end, and year-end reporting.
Qualifications:
• Prior accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably in federal accounting.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong working knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, data analysis).
• Ability to learn and use Sponsor accounting systems and run standard reports.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer support and teamwork.
• Ability to perform tasks independently and exercise sound judgment.
• Willingness to work additional hours when needed to meet deadlines (advance notice provided).
Work Schedule and Environment:
• Reports directly to the Deputy Chief.
• Team-oriented environment.
• Initial on-the-job training provided.
• No supervision of others required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Sponsor experience is a plus.
