Be part of our growing finance function as an Assistant Accountant. This progressive junior role is suitable for a part-qualified Accountant with competent excel and financial analysis skills, with a focus on supporting a national and international business from the Sydney head office based in Glebe. The successful candidate will enjoy the opportunity to grow and learn in a projects-based NetSuite environment, and work closely with peers, managers, and wider teams to provide a high standard of financial support and advice.
The Role:
You will take ownership of the critical Accounts Receivable function, which will involve:
Ensuring billing plans for key contracts are maintained and tracked.
Liaising with teams in ensuring claim submission and invoices are issued to clients.
Preparing tax invoices in NetSuite (low volume).
Maintaining weekly cashflow receipt inputs for CFO review.
Revenue recognition entries for value earned for milestone contracts
You will be a key team player in monthly accounting and control activities, including:
Monthly allocations for prepayments, insurances, and other corporate costs.
Ensure accurate cost allocations between departments and projects.
Monthly Balance reconciliations (shared responsibility).
Month-end Reviews on completion of AP and payroll activities.
Cost and margin reviews for small to medium sized contracts.
Develop commercial and finance acumen for advice to wider business and teams on transactions.
Key player in audit preparation and contact for auditors during testing and preparation of Y/E accounts.
There is scope to grow into a highly commercial focused role working on project and cost centre financial reviews and reporting.
The Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and studying towards an Accounting qualification.
Prior experience in Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and other activities as an Assistant Accountant.
Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
Competent in Microsoft Excel and Accounting software.
Experience working within construction, heavy industry or a project-based environment is desirable.
High level attention to detail, strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
A self-starter with excellent communication skills.
