Job Description:
The Clinical Nurse Educator in the Regional Renal Program leads and supports quality care outcomes through educational program planning, collaboration with members of the interprofessional team, implementation and evaluation processes to enhance knowledge, skills and professionalism of clinical staff. The mission, vision, and values of the Interprofessional Practice Department are achieved through education, clinical practice, and research processes. Advanced preparation and experience in nursing care enables the Clinical Nurse Educator to work towards bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Responsibilities include:
Customer Development
Act as a clinical decision-making guide in individual and group education.
Leads and facilitates clinical questioning, decision making, and critical thinking among staff.
Role model positive attitudes and RVH values.
Advocates that College Legislation, regulations, standards and guidelines are met, and reports to management (in-program and within interprofessional practice), individuals who are not in compliance
Facilitates staff professional development through the promotion and enrollment, with full participation of initiatives which promote the overall profession and renal educational advancement.
Encourages, promotes, and facilitates continuous learning to constantly improve clinical practice.
Creates the environment that enables professional development while incorporating a novice to expert approach.
Ensures the education required to maintain privacy and confidentiality is updated on all staff.
Personal Development
Demonstrate responsibility and self-direction for own professional development through ongoing continuing education.
Support ongoing development of professional and educational institution skills through reflective practice.
Liaise with external professional organizations as necessary.
Promote a positive environment for learning and professional development.
Education
Provides ongoing educational opportunities on clinical practice and skills for staff.
Provides regional educational support, collaboration and training opportunities when required or requested by regional partners
Acts as an education consultant for clinical staff.
Addresses unit specific education issues and provides educational needs assessment and analysis.
Incorporates adult learning principles in the planning, design, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs using multiple methodologies.
Researches and prepares education materials using a variety of different media.
Facilitates knowledge transfer to the practice setting.
Provides information and support to members of the interprofessional health care team.
Acts as a mentor and facilitates staff involvement in unit presentations, research projects, etc.
Provides leadership in facilitating clinical practice changes at the unit and program level, as well as hospital wide initiatives, in collaboration with members of the interprofessional team.
Develops, disseminates and sustains nursing specific and interprofessional standards of care, medical directives, policies and procedures, department protocols and pre-printed orders.
Liaises with community agencies regarding clinical practices.
Conducts annual learning needs assessment for the profession and development strategies for both profession specific and interprofessional learning.
Promotes and facilitates professional development and ongoing learning and education both within and across professions.

Please Note: Portfolios among Clinical Nurse Educators may change at any time to meet program needs. However, current requirement is for a renal dialysis expert with experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator in the Chronic Kidney Disease Program which services offsite locations across the region.
Qualifications
Education:
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required, Master’s Degree preferred.
Current College of Nurses of Ontario certificate of competence in good standing required.
Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in CNeph(C) an asset or to complete within 2 years of starting and maintaining certification.
BCLS within one year required.
Current ACLS is preferred.
Post graduate courses/education in related clinical area preferred.
Post graduate preparation in Adult Education preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of five years recent fulltime or equivalent practice experience with demonstrated clinical excellence in renal care including a combination of in-centre, acute, peritoneal, home hemodialysis, CVAD, access and cannulation with current access techniques.
Adult Education and Program Development experience required.
Dynamic presentation experience required.
Previous Clinical Nurse Educator experience preferred.
Demonstrated unit leadership roles required.
Knowledge of professional guidelines and standards required.
Knowledge of government legislation influencing professional practice required.
Demonstrated and well-developed communication skills required.
Policy and Procedure, and Medical Directive Development preferred.
Computer skills an asset.
Development of documentation forms an asset.
