Key Duties And Responsibilities
• Overall responsibility for proactively monitoring the budgets and costs of cloud platforms in support of satisfying the best possible outcome for different environments;
• Determine and predict budgets associated with current and future cloud workloads;
• Review cloud utilization and make recommendations on licensing and subscription models PAYG, reserved instance strategy, and proposed discounts for optimization;
• Generate standard reporting and complete ad hoc analyses designed to monitor cloud costs, security, usage and identify inconsistent consumption against expected models;
• Drive awareness of cost trending, and provide these reports to each respective team consuming cloud services to encourage engagement;
• Present cost analysis to executive leadership on a daily, weekly, monthly basis as required;
• Implement governance standards, including resource tagging, account structure, provisioning, permissions and access and auto shutdown polices;
• Configure and monitoring alerting processes on our cloud platform relating to budgets and thresholds in costs and detect unexpected spikes in consumption in near real time;
• Conduct monthly cross-organizational meetings with Engineering, and Finance to identify and action potential cost optimization;
• Support development teams and platform engineers to implement optimisations recommendations on their cloud resources;
Experience And Skills
• An excellent understanding and practical experience in the role of Cloud Cost Optimisation
• A minimum years of experience in the role of cloud cost optimisation in a similar organisation ideally in a leadership position;
• Knowledge of the major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle), including cloud architecture, networking, cloud infrastructure and cloud security concepts and best practices, with 2 years of practical experience in at least one cloud provider;
• Experience of managing cloud cost budgets in excess of $3 million per year.
• Excellent understanding and practical experience of the major cloud provider's consumption and pricing options, cost principles, cost drivers and licencing;
• Experienced in a number of native tools (Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer) as well as exposure to a third party tools such as Apptio, Cloudhealth, Cloudcheckr;
• experience creating reports in PowerBI, Excel, and or cloud-native costing tools;
• Experience with large enterprise environments;
• Good financial background e.g., creating ROI, TCO, and cost optimization strategies.
• 3rd Level Degree in Finance or IT or analytics Discipline or similar;Strong MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• certification in Finops Certified Practitioner (FCOP) or similar is desirable.
