Are you looking to harness your creative energy and talent for the art of communication? Look no further! We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized and collaborative individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Reporting to the Manager of Issues Management and Communications, the Communications Coordinator role is responsible for providing long- term and day-to-day communications and administrative support to the North Region of Children and Family Services. This role contributes directly to the visibility, clarity and effectiveness of the region’s internal and external communications.

Key Responsibilities:
As a part of the North Region’s communications team the Communication Coordinator will be responsibilities for but not limited to:

Drafting a variety of communication materials including content for the north region intranet site, speaking notes, bi-weekly newsletter, email and letter correspondence, presentations, key messages, reports and other publications.
Researching and compiling electronic clipping packages and data for program areas and organizations; gathering program background and history to establish audience intent and communication objectives.
Coordinating graphic design and promotional material production, ensuring alignment with government guidelines and standards.
Creating and editing multimedia content (video, audio, photo) in accordance with branch and Government of Alberta standards, for use by regional staff and across the ministry as required.
Assisting with and coordinating arrangements for special events, stakeholder engagement activities, operational planning sessions and displays or information booths.
Providing logistical support for both virtual and in-person events.
Participating and providing communication support throughout the stakeholder engagement process, including internal operational planning.
Contributing to and implementing changes to communication processes and systems, considering change management principles and broader operational needs.

Administrative Support:

In addition to communications tasks, the communication coordinator will also provide administrative support by:

Preparing, editing, and formatting documents such as letters, emails, presentations, and other products as required.
Developing agendas and meeting materials.
Reviewing ARTs communication and distributing to/from leadership and stakeholders
Preparing and sending emails and calendar invites
Actively participate on regional committees as required, which may include meeting coordination, agendas preparation, minute-taking and drafting key messages.

Qualifications
University degree in a related field such as but not limited to public relations, communications, and journalism plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience: producing communications products and materials and providing communications support.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:
One year of experience for one year of education; or
One year of education for one year of experience.

Assets:
Strong research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Ability to write a variety of communication products (speeches, new releases, advertising, articles, briefing notes, website content)
Computer skills including, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft M365, SharePoint and Internet
Knowledge of Canadian Press Style Guides|
Understanding of issues management
Ability to be creative in writing and communications planning consulting skills project management skills.
Interpersonal skills
Knowledge of advertising design, placement and GoA advertising policy, GoA Communications Policy and GoA Website Standards understanding of graphic design and print production techniques.
Knowledge of Government of Alberta Visual Identity Guidelines and advertising policy
Knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation, policies, and procedures

Hours of Work are Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week (full-time).

Occasional travel within the North Region and other parts of Alberta to support northern initiatives and to represent the region.
