The Communications Officer will:
Communications Planning
Build working relationships with all levels of the business to identify, plan for and deliver communication, engagement and advocacy opportunities
Support Council’s communications and media program and media relations
Continuously seek feedback to improve speed, quality and efficiency and service to the business and key stakeholders.
Support internal communications schedule
Support to ensure the consistent implementation of our brand.
Communications Delivery
Support the delivery of the internal communications plan with Manager Communications and Engagement.
Support the delivery of Council’s Advocacy Plan and related communication campaigns
Execute agreed communication plans on time and to budget and in line with Council’s policies, processes and procedures including protocols for sign offs, spokesperson, branding and style.
Provide ‘on the ground’ support to media and communications activities, including some activities outside business hours and on weekends.
Support senior members of the team with communications and engagement activities.
Assist in the design, development and delivery of communications and marketing materials to fulfil Council’s engagement goals.
Participate in the delivery and improvement of Council’s online presence, in particular social media and
website, and ensure appropriate feedback and evaluation tools are incorporated.
Build, monitor, and update as required website content for various Council departments including community consultation pages, advocacy pages project pages, media releases and corporate advert updates.
Assist with developing creative solutions that include new communication techniques/technology, media opportunities and community engagement exercises.
Prepare and distribute Council media releases.
Provide general support to the Communications and Engagement team, including for campaigns, project and events.
Develop and maintain a media and stakeholder database/contact lists
Ensure compliance with MSC procurement procedures

To succeed in this position you will have:
Experience working with a dynamic, complex and politically sensitive environment and manage confidential and sensitive information.
Demonstrated ability to engage and liaise with a diverse audience.
Proven ability to prepare materials for all communication mediums, including print, web and social.
Proficiency in preparing and distributing media releases.
Communication content planning and management techniques/skills
High level interpersonal skills, especially written and verbal communication.
