Organization Overview: Safe Harbour Society is a dynamic and compassionate non-profit organization and has been at the forefront of providing medically supported detox, shelter, housing, and recovery supports to Central Alberta's residents for two decades. With a determined focus on recovery and housing, Safe Harbour Society creates spaces of welcome and connection for individuals experiencing addiction, mental health issues, and homelessness so that they can transition into housing and embark on the road to recovery. Position: Executive Director

Job Summary: The Executive Director will lead all aspects of Safe Harbour Society, overseeing the effective operation of the medically supported detox, the homeless shelter, Indigenous programming, outreach services, and housing support initiatives. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads an extraordinary group of staff dedicated to making a difference in our community. Guided by Safe Harbour Society’s Guiding Principles, known as the 7 Stars, the Executive Director role requires a visionary leader with a deep commitment to ensuring people with complex needs have access to support. They must possess expertise in strategic decision-making, strong management skills, and a proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders. To ensure Safe Harbour Society maintains their reputation of a well-respected high-impact organization, the Executive Director must embody the organization's vision and mission, be forward-thinking, enhance team capabilities, and foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

Lead the development and implementation of Safe Harbour Society’s strategic plan.
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Identify and champion policies and system changes addressing the root causes of homelessness and addictions.
Efficiently allocate resources to maximize organizational impact.
2. Program Management and Development:

Lead the provision of effective clinical, operational, and administrative services.
Ensure high-quality, compassionate, person-centered programs meet the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, addictions, and health issues.
Explore new opportunities for expanding support services.
3. Community Engagement and Government Relations:

Promote Safe Harbour Society’s responses within Central Alberta.
Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community partners, the three orders of government, funders, and donors.
Serve as the primary public spokesperson for Safe Harbour Society.
4. Financial Management:

Oversee the organization’s financial status and develop long- and short-range financial plans.
Lead budget management and ensure financial sustainability.
Seek and secure funding through grants, donations, and partnerships.
5. Team Leadership:

Foster an effective senior leadership team.
Develop and implement an annual workforce training plan.
Promote a positive, collaborative work environment.
6. Board Support and Leadership:

Liaise between operational management and the Board of Directors.
Ensure Board receives evidence-based performance measures.
Develop and support a diverse and inclusive Board.

Decision-Making: make timely and informed decisions factoring in relevant facts, goals, constraints, and risks.
Organizational and Financial Management
Relationship Building: act as a bridge builder and nourish relationships with the community and multiple stakeholders to keep relationships intact and enrich them.
Communication: superior written, oral, interpersonal competency is required, knowledge of grant writing, with experience in media relations being an asset.
Qualifications:

Minimum of 5-7 years of executive leadership experience in non-profit management.
Experience in program development, management, and financial stewardship.
Strong understanding of homelessness, addictions, and mental health issues.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field.
