We are seeking a Grade 4 Teacher to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the learning experience of students at Lalme’ Iwesawtexw (Seabird Island Community School).
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Teacher provides culturally informed instruction, assessment, and classroom management to students. This role involves preparing and delivering lessons in alignment with curriculum standards, fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment, and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and the broader community.
The Teacher will also engage in community relations activities to support student success and well-being, while participating in professional development and school meetings to ensure continuous growth and alignment with school policies and educational best practices.
This position has a start date of August 25th, 2025, and an end date of June 30th, 2026.
What You'll Do
Provide student-focused instruction of assigned grade or class including but not limited to preparation, assessment,
and classroom management.
Complete all teaching and reporting requirements.
Actively participate in Education Jurisdiction implementation.
Implement and support students in outdoor, land-based lessons.
Communicate with students, and parents/guardians.
Work with colleagues as part of a collaborative team.
Use assessment and intervention techniques for students who experience learning or attendance difficulties.
Attend school events as requested or required.
Participate in training and professional development.
Attend meetings with administration as required to address any emerging issues.
Abide by all policies of Seabird Island, Seabird Island Community School, the BC Ministry of Education, Independent
Schools Branch and ensure compliance with the Teacher Code of Conduct.
Other Duties
Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
Working / Special Conditions
Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Review Program Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
Initial and ongoing commitment to the values and guidelines of Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), including our policies, procedures, standards of practice, and laws, is essential. This commitment supports our collective work, the community, and the responsibilities of this role.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Education or higher, and current practicing British Columbia (BC) Certified Teacher qualifications OR Eligible for B.C. Certification and seeking teacher training and practicum at an Elementary or High School.
Demonstrated ability to implement age-appropriate literacy strategies.
Strong classroom management skills.
The ability and energy to work with multi-age groups and meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities using a variety of teaching strategies.
The ability and desire to work closely with colleagues in a team-oriented approach to teaching and learning.
Experience working within Indigenous communities and applying culturally safe practices.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
