We are looking for a Head of Policy - India on a full time, permanent basis to focus on the India market. Role holder could be based in most major cities across India, and we offer both remote and flexible working options. The role reports to the Regional Lead - India & Africa and is part of a globally distributed team comprising P&I colleagues around the world. This is a key role within India, which is a key market for ACCA.
The job
Collaborating with ACCA India team (eg Director - India; Head of Public Affairs, India) to ensure that P&I content is relevant to ACCA strategic objectives in India
Acting as a bridge between P&I colleagues developing global reports/policy (Global Subject Matter Experts) and the needs of ACCA India strategic/operational teams that lead the delivery of ACCA qualification in India and use the outputs of P&I to drive key stakeholder relationships in India (eg with employers, universities, and via ACCA member sessions).
Supporting India aspects of global content creation and content dissemination in India:
Collaborate with P&I Global Subject Matter Experts, to bring India inputs to global content, for eg organising of a roundtable discussion to gather India specific inputs to be shared with the author of global report, collaborating with marketing team to drive Indian responses to global survey
Sharing global reports in India, for eg presenting at conference/events; or preparing presentations for colleagues to share at key stakeholder meetings that are based on a global report but with some India relevant messaging.
Creating India focused content and supporting its dissemination in India:
Producing a deliverable which is typically a short thought leadership report or policy paper with crisp, targeted messages, and key recommendations tailored to target audience. This may be a report developed specifically for India or an India version of a global report, that focuses exclusively on insights relevant to India.
India target audience for P&I content is typically one or more of [a] Qualified Accountants eg ACCA Members [b] Government ministries relevant to ACCA's priorities eg Education, Corporate Affairs, Finance [c] Senior (Board/CFO/Partner) level Executives [d] Students in University considering accountancy career or those studying ACCA qualification
Visualise any data findings in clear, engaging way eg graphs, infographics, introducing new data analysis approaches if possible
End-to-end ownership also includes presenting content, when necessary, typically using power point slides, eg at conferences, meetings etc
Conduct and/or analyse findings from [a] surveys [b] roundtables [c] structured interviews
Occasionally, there may be a need/opportunity to respond to consultations from government ministries or other stakeholders like Indian CA bodies for our view on technical accounting topics particularly with international relevancy like IFRS, or topical areas like ESG. Depending on topic, some guidance/support from Global Subject Matter Expert may be available.
Core topics for content creation include: [a] Future of Work and link to Future of the Accountancy Profession, Driving Attractiveness of Accountancy Profession [b] Talent Development and Skills required by Accountants for future success, Education Models in Accountancy [c] Sustainability/ESG considerations for organisations/govts and how Accountants can contribute [d] Impact of Technology on accountancy profession [e] CFO agenda, including but not restricted to for eg finance leadership, strategic/big picture, Board issues [f] Integrated Reporting, Non-financial/Sustainability reporting [g] Role of Accountants in driving MSMEs and Entrepreneurship [h] Risk, Governance and Internal Audit. Additional topics which may be relevant from time to time include audit, tax and financial reporting.
Good awareness of issues pertinent to at least 1 core topic
Desire to build basic knowledge in other areas if needed
Supporting ACCA India team in using P&I content to drive key relationships in India, for eg through providing key messages/presentations for colleagues to share at key conferences, key stakeholder interventions/meetings etc
Support, collaborate and work in consultation with ACCA members to prepare India specific reports if/when opportunity arises
Support marketing teams in effective local engagement/promotion activity to maximise the visibility, credibility and impact of ACCA thought leadership and policy content in India
Support design, development, maintenance, and dissemination of ACCA Global Policy Positions and any other ACCA policy collateral, bringing relevant Indian perspectives to enrich global policy positions where relevant.
Raise ACCA brand in the market by providing visibility of content to employers, members and various stakeholders in P&I.
Support Regional Lead - India & Africa in identifying opportunities where P&I can support ACCA to have a positive impact in relation to the accounting profession and the business sector in India; and opportunities to support ACCA strategic aims in India.
The person
We're looking for an individual with the following:
Flair for writing and presenting. Welcome any examples of previously published articles or papers. End to end research skill set based on prior experience of writing and presenting thought leadership/research/policy reports, including: Report writing, drafting skills
Data visualisation
Presentations
Ideation, i.e. ability to think about 'angles' for content that would be of interest
Survey: drafting question, data analysis
Structuring and facilitating roundtables, conducting interviews with senior leaders to gather inputs for reports
Tailoring findings to target audience; drawing out the 'so-what' in a way which resonates for audience
Evidence of a good understanding of the accountancy profession - particularly key trends and factors relevant to the profession in India and globally, and skills needed by accountants for future success
Strong stakeholder management in a matrix structure: supporting India team while also working closely with global colleagues. This is critical for the role as we're seeking a full-time, permanent member of staff who will collaborate and 'buy into' the organisation's values, enrich the culture of the organisation and bring skills/learning into ACCA's way of working. It is not about doing a back-to-back list of writing engagements. Over the course of a year there will be some writing, but also planning, coordination, bringing a strategic approach, support, presentation of content etc - all of which seeks to ensure that the right content is produced, used in the right way, and its impact is understood and informs future use cases and approach.
Sound communication, presentation and influencing skills
Strong team player skills, capable of operating at pace within a high-performing team. This includes being able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously if needed, prioritising and managing expectations.
Professionally qualified accountant eg ICAI/ACCA is desirable but not mandatory if can demonstrate strong understanding in the Indian context, with respect to at least 1 core topic mentioned earlier.
The role will suit someone with experience of Thought Leadership and of exploring big, strategic issues affecting business and the Accounting Profession, eg in a BIG 4 environment
Strong first hand understanding of how things work on the ground in India while also having a global mindset, and ability to interface with colleagues from across India and around the world
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal to translate reports into simple and easy-to-understand action points which can easily be digestible, for eg by time-poor C suite executives
