Reporting to the Manager, Transit Service Vehicles, the Leader, Technical Services - Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) will provide leadership to Lead Technical Advisors who manage the lifecycle of Calgary Transit's LRV fleet, providing technical support to maintenance shops. This position is responsible for budgeting, specification, procurement, and disposal of the LRV fleet. Primary duties include:
Leading a team in procuring, managing, and maintaining the LRV fleet by managing LRV and inventory procurement contracts, developing and sustaining reliability and preventative maintenance programs, providing technical, training and development support, and maintaining shop equipment and tools.
Planning, developing, and executing LRV Fleet Asset Management Plans, ensuring that the plan aligns with Calgary Transit's 30-year strategy - RouteAhead meets service commitments.
Conducting lifecycle cost analysis, considering planned maintenance activities, unplanned failures and repairs, and component lifecycle and failure patterns to decide on appropriate rebuild/overhaul programs.
Overseeing LRV maintenance planning and scheduling, modification and modernization projects, mid-life overhaul projects, failure analysis, and technical evaluations to enhance fleet reliability and availability.
Developing, implementing, and sustaining reliability-centered maintenance programs, including monitoring and reporting on the performance of the LRV fleet.
Establishing and maintaining industry standards for planning, scheduling, recording, analyzing, and reporting on maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with maintenance plans and continuous improvement following repeat failures.
Providing technical and engineering support to garages and technicians on recurring or unique technical issues and problems.
Leading the planning, creation, negotiation, and awarding of LRV procurement documents for components, parts, and/or inventory.
Maintaining current knowledge of industry standards and practices through collaboration with industry peers.
Hiring, leading, and mentoring direct reports, approving time off, and managing budget and expenditures.
Interpreting labor contracts to manage staff and conduct investigations relating to complaints, labor relation concerns, and other matters as they arise.
Qualifications
A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering degree with at least at least 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details.
At least 2 years of leadership experience supervising staff, managing and leading a distributed team to ensure an efficient light rail vehicle asset and maintenance management, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
Experience in financial and business planning, budgeting and setting business objectives, managing projects, developing business cases and cost-benefit analyses, and handling with labour relations concerns would be considered an asset.
Knowledge of the design, operation and maintenance of light rail vehicles, freight cars, mobile industrial equipment, on-road class 5 to 8 fleet vehicles or related equipment would be considered an asset.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
