At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, you'll work in modern laboratories, alongside skilled technicians and clinicians, contributing to patient care at every level of the health system. We're welcoming Pathologists who want to use their expertise to make a difference in a more connected, balanced environment.

Opportunities across Health New Zealand

Pathologists in New Zealand work in regional and tertiary hospitals, and across community diagnostic services. Depending on your scope, you may practise in:

Anatomical pathology (including surgical, cytology and autopsy)
Clinical pathology (including microbiology, biochemistry, immunology or haematology)
Forensic pathology (in designated centres)
Molecular and genetic pathology (in larger laboratories)
Teaching, registrar training and laboratory quality systems
You'll collaborate closely with laboratory scientists, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to support timely, accurate and equitable diagnostic care.

Pathologists in New Zealand enjoy diverse work supported by well-equipped laboratories, modern digital systems and strong peer networks.

You'll benefit from:

Non-clinical time for CME, education and service development
Clear career pathways and professional support
Integrated electronic systems and reporting platforms
Flexible work arrangements (full-time or part-time)
Engagement in quality improvement and governance
Call New Zealand home

If you receive a job offer, our Health Immigration Service provides free support to help you and your whānau (family) relocate. Pathologists are on Tier 1 of New Zealand's Green List, making you eligible for the Straight to Residence Visa – so you can apply for residency before you even arrive.

Whether you prefer coastal towns or alpine centres, New Zealand offers the freedom to live life with more time, space and balance.

Salary & benefits

Base salary: NZD $170,000 – $250,000+ (based on the ASMS MECA)

You'll also receive:

Annual CME allowance (up to NZD $16,000)
CME leave (up to 10 days per year)
