Your Opportunity:
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Stollery Children’s Hospital provides an environment that supports critically ill children and their family. The multidisciplinary critical care team promotes best clinical practice as well as fostering education, research and quality improvement initiatives guided by contemporary evidence-based medicine and enhanced locally by an active and productive clinical research program. Our critical care program is recognized at a regional, national and international level for excellence in critical care. As the PICU Registered Nurse (RN), you will be challenged in your ability to balance varying patient acuity levels and priorities in this dynamic environment. The PICU RN is trained in advanced critical care certifications and will have the opportunity to utilize excellent communication skills and collaborative discussions to better support optimal outcomes. You will be responsible for the provision of education, advice and information to patients and families regarding evidence-based guidelines, while determining the family’s ability and desire to participate in care. Employees are required to work a minimum of 1 year in PICU following completion of their orientation before they will be considered for a casual position.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $3+.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1-2 current years of Stollery Pediatric Critical Care nursing experience. May consider applicants with: 2 years current Stollery Pediatric experience or 2 years adult ICU/ER experience. Current is within previous 5 years. Successful completion of PICU orientation, including 80% pass on comprehensive exam and +0% pass on medication exam. Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates that have pediatric Critical experience. PICU/NICU nursing experience within the last 5 years. PALS Certification. Advanced critical care nursing certifications - ENPC/ACLS/TNCC. Canadian Nurses Association CNCCP(C) Pediatric ICU Certification. American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACCN) Certification. Participation in working groups/committees or quality improvement initiatives.
