Leave of Absence Analyst Overview:
As an experienced Leave of Absence Analyst, you will manage leave cases from application to return, ensuring compliance with City policies, legislation and collective agreements. You will guide employees and leaders through various leave types while managing related benefits and documentation.
Primary duties include:
Act as the subject-matter expert in either retirement or leave of absence programs and policies.
Provide consultations to employees planning for retirement or a leave, offering clear and accurate guidance.
Build strong relationships with employees, leaders, HR, unions, pension/benefit partners, and other parties.
Manage retirements and leaves cases, ensuring accurate calculations of pension, benefits, service, and earnings.
Coordinate benefits during unpaid leaves or retirement, including managing Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD).
Investigate and resolve pension data issues through analysis and processing corrections.
Develop and improve documentation, policies, SOPs, and workflows.
Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for retirement and leave processes.
Qualifications
A completed 1 year certificate or diploma in benefits, pension, payroll, HR, or a directly related field and at least 5 years of progressive and directly related experience in senior-level pension, benefits, or leave administration, including interpreting policy, advising employees, and related system use.
Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and experience with HRIS systems such as PeopleSoft HCM.
Experience with Alberta Pension Services (APS), Defined Benefit (DB) pension plans, and knowledge of employment standards, collective agreements, disability management, and leave policies will be considered an asset.
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and sound judgement.
Excellent communication skills to clearly convey complex information to a diverse audience.
Proven discretion when handling sensitive matters and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
