About the NSW Crime Commission:

The NSW Crime Commission’s purpose is to disrupt, reduce and prevent the incidence of organised and other serious crime in New South Wales. The Commission is structured into functional Divisions consisting of operational and support teams.


The function of conducting confiscations and providing legal services is assigned to the Commission’s Legal Services and Confiscations Division under the leadership of the Executive Director Legal and Confiscations. The Commission’s Confiscations function and practice manages responsibilities under the Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1++0 principally relating to the confiscation of the proceeds of crime and recovery of assets derived from crime. Legal Services support the Commission’s Investigative and Confiscation functions providing legal advice, litigation services and support to coercive powers under the Crime Commission Act 2012.

About the role

The Senior Forensic Accountant is responsible for managing concurrent confiscation files from commencement of proceedings to completion through settlement or hearing in the NSW Supreme Court. The Senior Forensic Accountant is allocated files with serious and complex financial structures, which are more likely to progress to full litigation. The role provides assistance, support and guidance to others regarding all aspects of financial investigations.

Essential Requirements:

Degree qualification in a relevant discipline and eligibility to become a member of a professional body and/or demonstrated equivalent experience
Substantial experience as a forensic accountant or financial investigator with a proven track record recovering the proceeds of crime and/or investigating income or other tax evasion, insolvency, etc.
Demonstrated ability to compile, analyse and interpret complex financial documents and present high-quality, clear and succinct written conclusions and a proven ability to communicate technical and financial concepts to a variety of audiences
Highly developed research, analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Proven experience working in a high-volume work environment, including the ability to maintain effective, professional relationships with stakeholders at all levels
High level judgement and an ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information with tact and discretion
Well-developed computer skills including the use of spreadsheets and databases
Excellent knowledge of accounting concepts, standards, systems and practices and a capacity to gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, policies, procedures and the functions of the Commission.

Question 1: Describe in detail your approach to autonomously managing a significant caseload of concurrent serious and complex investigations?

Question 2: Describe one of the more complex financial investigations that you have conducted, including any significant hurdles that you faced and the results achieved. Where possible you should describe an investigation conducted within the last three years.
