Job Description
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a capable and commercially minded accountant who enjoys working in a deadline-driven environment, can operate with confidence and maturity, and is ready to add value from day one. It is not a development role; it requires someone who can step in, review work at depth, guide others and help lift capacity within the team.
The role
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, you will help lead the delivery of core finance and payroll activities across a small group of entities. You will act as a key review point for the team, support the quality and timeliness of deliverables, and contribute to ongoing systems and process improvements. The role has two direct reports and broad exposure across month end, year end, statutory reporting and finance operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting oversight of payroll processing, compliance, reconciliations and associated reporting
Reviewing month-end and year-end reporting, reconciliations, journals and analysis
Supporting statutory reporting, audit deliverables, tax returns, board and committee papers
Overseeing aspects of accounts payable, banking, lease accounting and compliance activities
Assisting with acquisitions, purchase price allocations and other ad hoc finance matters
Contributing to systems improvement, including payroll and AP process enhancements
Coaching, mentoring and reviewing the work of two direct reports (offshore).
About you
You are likely to be CA or CPA qualified with solid senior accounting experience gained in either corporate accounting or a public practice environment, ideally with exposure to audit or technically strong financial reporting work. You bring sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial statements, month-end and year-end processes, tax and payroll review. You are comfortable taking ownership, supervising others and working in an environment where quality, judgement and follow-through matter.
You will also bring:
At least 6+ years’ accounting experience
Strong technical accounting capability and attention to detail
Experience reviewing complex deliverables and managing deadlines
Confidence supervising and mentoring junior team members
Strong Excel and cloud accounting systems capability
Exposure to systems transitions, process improvement or AI-related efficiencies will be well regarded.
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to join a high-quality organisation with a strong reputation, a collaborative culture and a genuinely interesting operating environment. The role offers breadth, responsibility and visibility, along with the chance to work across multiple entities in a business that values professionalism, trust and continuous improvement. The environment is sophisticated, busy and deadline-driven, so it will appeal to someone who enjoys meaningful work and wants to be part of a capable, committed team.
The role is based in Melbourne and offers hybrid flexibility following onboarding.
