Job Overview

Bramshaw Ward are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly team. We are a gynaecology ward, supporting a multitude of patients with varying presentations - from gynaecology, gynae-oncology and breast (post-operatively and pre-operatively), and early pregnancy.

We are a fast-paced 18-bedded ward, offering a 24-hour service, which includes an assessment room for emergency admissions out of hours. We are looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant with a keen interest in Women's Health.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To
• Provide a clean, welcoming environment for patients and relatives.
• Assess patients health care needs and complete all required documentation.
• Ensure patients requirements are met with dignity, compassion and empathy.
• Be non-judgemental in your approach to patient care and attitudes.
• Ensure any concerns are reported to the nurse in charge in a timely manner.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The Senior Healthcare Assistant role is appropriate for somebody with a Level 3 apprenticeship in healthcare, NVQ 3 in care or equivalent (or working towards). We welcome applications from those with previous HCA experience, who are trained and competent in venesection and cannulation.

Due to the fast-paced nature of our ward, we require somebody who is calm, organised and committed. And due to the sensitivity of some of our admissions; compassion and a non-judgemental approach is a must.

The successful candidate will be involved in safe admissions and discharges of patients, monitoring patients post-operatively - ensuring that deteriorations are recognised and escalated to the Nurse in charge promptly. Please see attached for a more extensive list of the job description.

Qualifications / Training Required

Essential criteria
• NVQ 3 in health and social care or equivalent
• Numeracy and Literacy skills at level 1 or 2 or equivalent

Desirable criteria
• Keyboard skills
• Experience and competent in additional clinical skills

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
• Proven experience in a caring role
• Understanding of an acute hospital setting and the role of the SHCA

Desirable criteria
• Previous HCA experience
• Previous experience of working with the general public
• Experience of using a computer
