About the Role

The Legal Services branch focuses on the delivery of professional legal services to the organisation.

The legal issues that you will handle in this role are diverse. In this role you will provide legal advice to Council and its committees, Managers and staff on a wide range of issues relating to local government, and the focus of the role is on dispute resolution, including planning and environment law.

Responsibilities include:

Provision of specialist professional legal advice to Council on legally complex matters across a broad range of local government activities and responsibilities.
Manage and assist in managing disputes and court proceedings, including Planning and Environment Court proceedings, without prejudice discussions, and in mediations.
Prepare and provide advice on complex legal documentation, contracts and agreements.
Provision of support and assistance to our Senior Solicitors and General Counsel in the achievement of Legal Services’ business objectives, vision, strategy and service delivery.
Provision of a supportive environment where the Legal Services team strives to achieve best practice where suitable information is communicated and shared freely and where employees are empowered and involved in the delivery of the Branch services.
About you

As a professional in the industry you will hold a current unrestricted Legal Practising Certificate.

You will have demonstrated significant knowledge and experience of the law generally, the principles of law, the practices and procedures of Queensland Courts and Tribunals, and of the law relating to local government practice, dispute negotiation and resolution.

You will be commercially-minded and possess relevant post admission experience.

You will be a self-motivated and solution-oriented professional, able to work both in a team and independently.

As a requirement of this role, you will have demonstrated high level of drafting, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and personal qualities of excellence in the delivery of legal service, including tact, integrity and discretion.

Criminal History Check Required

Appointment to this position is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
