Job purpose
The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing general ledger entries, maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts, assisting with financial and regulatory reporting, and other projects as needed as part of a dynamic and rapidly growing real estate finance company. He/she supports the Corporate Controller and Assistant Controller and does not have any direct reports.
Duties and responsibilities
Review and analyze general ledger accounts, prepare general ledger entries, maintain records and files, and reconcile accounts
Responsible for recording/reconciling bank transactions
Account for production and servicing revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP
Assist with preparing financial statements and other regulatory reports and filings
Enhance, develop, and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes
Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
Maintain internal controls and safeguard confidential information
Develop knowledge and skills by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations
Assist with annual audits, compliance reporting, and special projects as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
CPA, or actively working towards CPA preferred
0-2 years accounting experience
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office products, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
Dependable, motivated, team player, with strong work ethic
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
Successful working with teams and independently in a progressive, fast paced, and changing environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
