Staff Accountant: Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Wash., Inc.
Silver Spring, MD
Position Summary:
This position reports directly to the Controller. Candidate will perform a variety of accounting activities as assigned including maintaining and reconciling various asset accounts and performing periodic internal audits. In addition, they will assist the Controller in managing the day to day operations of the Accounting Department. Full-time, exempt position. Work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly asset reconciliations including bank accounts, inventory and fixed assets.
Reconcile and maintain Trust Account and all associated records.
Oversee the timely follow-up of accounts receivable.
Design and perform internal financial audits to insure the protection of Company assets.
Provide functional accounting related guidance and support to department/cemetery managers.
Assist with the surveillance of existing internal control procedures and make suggestions for improvement, where necessary.
Assist in preparation of work papers required for annual audit.
Assist in the review of invoices, receipts and contracts for accuracy and policy compliance.
Maintaining organizational integrity of accounting records and files.
Respond to inquiries from customers.
Assist the Controller in special projects as needed
Qualifications:
A successful candidate for this position maintains strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks at once, high levels of organization, and a commitment to assisting others. The candidate must possess outstanding oral and written communication skills, in addition to possessing:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration is required.
2 years of practical accounting experience is preferred.
Experience with non-profit accounting a plus.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
· Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
· Project professional poise and judgement.
· Knowledge of and support for the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church.
