Job Description
STOCK ACCOUNTANT – EDINBURGH (HYBRID or REMOTE)
We are delighted to be working in partnership with one of Europe’s leading Renewable Energy firms as they look to appoint the newly created role of Stock Accountant. The firm has its UK Head Office in Edinburgh and although the ideal candidate would be someone who could work out of the Edinburgh office on a fairly regular basis, the reality is that the role could in effect be carried out remotely and as such we are keeping an open mind in terms of potential candidates for the post.
The role:
As Stock Accountant, you’ll be responsible for managing the full stock lifecycle — from procurement through to reconciliation and transfer. You’ll also collaborate closely with finance, tax, and operational teams to support stock-related reporting and process improvements across the business. This is a key role in ensuring inventory accuracy and supporting financial operations in a dynamic, fast-paced business environment. With it being a newly created role within the business, you will have the opportunity to build and grow the role as you see appropriate, which in itself is a particularly exciting proposition.
Key areas of responsibility:
• Manage stock control procedures and oversee stock audits
• Oversee the entire stock lifecycle including storage, reconciliation and transfers
• Reconcile inventory data with the ERP system (Microsoft D365) and General Ledger
• Coordinate monthly stock reporting and year-end stocktakes
• Ensure accurate pricing updates in collaboration with Trading and AP teams
• Maintain compliance and treatment of VAT at the time of goods transferred
• Review and assess the impact of stock provision policies on the P&L
• Contribute to stock handling during acquisitions
• Drive improvements in stock processes and reporting
• Collaborate across Finance and Technical teams to support strategic goals
What we’re looking for:
• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) – highly desirable
• 5–7+ years’ experience of stock management, with the ability to set up the stock function from scratch - essential
• Strong understanding of IFRS and inventory accounting - essential
• Experience in complex, fast-growing companies - essential
• Experience of M&A or cross-border inventory management - desirable
• Excellent Excel skills – essential
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics would also be a plus
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills - essential
• Comfortable working across various cultures and time zones – essential
• A proactive, can-do attitude with great attention to detail - essential
• European language skills would be an added bonus but not essential
What’s on offer:
• Excellent salary and total package inc. attractive bonus and pension contribution
• 38 days annual leave
• A collaborative and forward-thinking working environment
• Exposure to international operations and cross-functional teams
• Opportunities to shape and improve processes
• Occasional travel within the UK and Europe
If you like the sound of what’s on offer and you’re excited by the idea of building something from scratch, within a growing and fast-paced environment, we would love to hear from you and we would ask that you submit your application at the earliest opportunity.
