Manukau Institute of Technology's School of Secondary Tertiary Studies (SSTS) is looking for a caring, reliable, and motivated Teacher Aide to support a Year 11 ākonga in their learning journey. This role plays a vital part in helping our ākonga access the curriculum, build confidence, and participate fully in school life.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key Responsibilities
You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and whānau to support one ākonga academic, social, and emotional development. Your day-to-day will include:
Assisting the ākonga with classroom tasks, assessments, and transitions
Helping implement their Individual Education Plan (IEP) or learning goals
Adapting learning materials and instructions under the teacher's guidance
Encouraging independence and positive behaviour
Supporting during breaks, class changes, and school events
Monitoring progress and reporting back to teaching staff

Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support young people
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with teaching staff
Flexibility to respond to ākonga needs
Basic understanding of the New Zealand Curriculum
Experience supporting ākonga with diverse learning needs is a plus
Currently this is a part-time, fixed-term role ending December 2025. Working school terms on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The hours may be increased and the fixed term maybe extended into 2026.
