About UNSW:

UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. We’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re one of the top 50 universities in the world and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

UNSW IT is part of UNSW’s Operations Division and provides high quality, sustainable, flexible products and state of the art technology services to UNSW. Our priorities are to drive innovative architectures that enable UNSW’s digital future and be a trusted partner of the University.

In recent years UNSW IT has implemented a Shared Service capability moving away from a complete federated model of individual IT units operating within Faculties and Divisions. UNSW IT is now entering its next phase of transformation to position itself as a strategic partner and enabler within the University. As a member of the UNSW IT Testing Services Team, Test lead will assist in the planning, monitoring, and control of the testing activities and tasks. At the outset of a project, in collaboration with the other stakeholders, the incumbent will, devise the test objectives, apply organisational test policies and create test strategies and test plans. The position will report into the Head of Testing Services and may supervise the work of Testers.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

Lead the team in software testing including reviewing requirements, specifications, and defining test conditions.
Establish the scope and depth of testing that needs to be performed and make recommendations on the required resources.
Manage and communicate test strategies and test plans.
Recommend and negotiate levels of test coverage and ensures traceability of test cases to functional requirements.
Manage the end to end operation of software testing from data diagnosis through to formulating resolutions
Design and execute test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, as well as recording and reporting outcomes.
Identification of test approaches that optimise delivery schedule adherence and ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with established policies, processes and procedures
Analyse and report test activities and results.
Take responsibility for escalating test issues and ensuring they are worked through to resolution
Ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled for tasks, projects and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.
Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
Your skills and experience:

Tertiary qualifications in IT or related discipline together with 10+ years’ experience in software testing.
Demonstrated capability in Test Process Improvement and Test Process Governance.
Demonstrated capability in software testing including preparation of test plans, test cases, execution of tests and reporting of defects.
Demonstrated capability in defect management processes and the ability to lead defect management workshops.
Strong presentation skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to structure and articulate messages to different audiences at all levels.
Ability to advocate the value of software testing processes and methods to stakeholders including Project Managers, Business Analysts and Developers.
Good knowledge of automated testing tools and methods.
Ability to analyse data, recognise problems and formulate solutions
Experience applying best practice in the planning and organising of own activities as well as the work of others.
Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
