Job Summary
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, supervising accounting staff, and ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness of financial reporting. The role focuses on team management, financial transaction oversight, reconciliation, process improvements, and compliance with internal controls and accounting standards to support organizational financial health.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Operations
Supervise and coordinate daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
Allocate tasks, staff, and resources based on department priorities and deadlines.
Monitor key financial metrics, transaction volumes, and reporting timelines.
Ensure proper posting, coding, and documentation of financial transactions.
Support accounting staff with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
Team Leadership & Supervision
Supervise accounting clerks, accountants, and assistants on the finance team.
Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and skill development for accounting staff.
Enforce discipline, attendance, adherence to policies, and internal controls.
Conduct team meetings, performance reviews, and provide feedback.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS) and internal policies.
Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules.
Coordinate audits and ensure proper documentation for internal and external audits.
Process Improvement & Controls
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reduce errors, and increase efficiency.
Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance.
Support system upgrades, automation, and financial process standardization initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, reconciliations, and reports.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly status reports for management.
Ensure proper documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong hands-on knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in accounting software (SAP, Oracle, Tally, QuickBooks, or similar).
Ability to supervise and lead finance teams effectively.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of financial reporting standards, compliance, and internal controls.
Excellent communication, coordination, and reporting skills.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred).
5–10 years of accounting experience, with 2–4 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Experience in corporate finance, manufacturing accounting, or a multi-entity environment preferred.
Tools & Systems (Preferred)
Accounting software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Tally, QuickBooks, etc.)
Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools
Knowledge of internal controls, audits, and compliance frameworks
Familiarity with process improvement methodologies and accounting best practices
