The Department of Physical Therapy, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Teaching (tenure track). This position will primarily be based at the distributed Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) Program site in Surrey, BC.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The UBC Department of Physical Therapy’s key coursework activity relates to the education of students to become practicing Physical Therapists. The MPT program is rigorous and scholarly and delivers a high standard of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, which provides students with a strong foundation to support practice in the profession. The MPT program is distributed to Surrey in part to address retention and recruitment of Physical Therapists in this rapidly growing area of the province. The Department also provides leadership in Physical Therapy research and the translation of novel research outcomes into best practices in this field of healthcare.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Physical Therapy, the successful candidate will be actively engaged in teaching within the MPT Program. The incumbent will also have a coordination role as Site Academic Lead for the program, contributing to the development and evaluation of the curriculum and program policies at the distributed Fraser Valley site. They will work closely with the Site Clinical Education Lead to ensure students meet the entry-to-practice competencies. This position involves working with students, faculty, clinicians, and academics across the University and clinical sectors, and the BC professional organizations (e.g., the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia, and the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia).

The appointee will be expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Department, as well as provide mentorship and training to graduate learners. The position will also participate in relevant service activities within the University and provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other programs and departments and be highly engaged in educational leadership activities including curriculum development and innovation, and other teaching and learning initiatives. Major activities will include but are not restricted to the following:
• Teaching, course coordination and distributed academic site lead responsibilities within the MPT Program;
• Providing content and expertise to inform program curriculum development and evaluation, within the appointee’s area of practice.

The successful candidate will have the following:
• A minimum of a degree in Physical Therapy, and preferably a post-graduate Masters in Physical Therapy or a related discipline (education, clinical or research);
• Previous teaching and course coordination experience, preferably within a university Physical Therapy program and clinical settings;
• Demonstrated evidence of ability and commitment to teaching, and promise of educational leadership;
• A minimum of five years of clinical practice experience as a Physical Therapist with experience in a relevant physical therapy area;
• Physical Therapy registration in Canada
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and strong technology enhanced learning and computer skills.
