Job Summary: In accordance with the Purpose, Vision, Values, and Coast Salish Teachings, and strategic direction of PHSA, safety, including both patient and employee safety, is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Clinical Coordinator, Patient and Family Counselling Services, reports to the Regional Services Clinical Manager and works in conjunction with the Psychosocial Oncology Communities of Practice (PSO COP) in providing a province wide approach for clinical services, education, community engagement and research in psychosocial oncology. Develops evidence based practice and programs, and is involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical services in the regional program. Supervises Health Sciences Professional and provides clinical direction and evaluation of assigned staff. Performs clinical, educational, community engagement, research and administrative duties. Duties/Accountabilities: 1. Implements and coordinates the psychosocial oncology program on a Regional level by developing annual goals and objectives in conjunction with Provincial Program priorities for the provision of services to patients and families. 2. Provides clinical supervision and consultation for Patient and Family Counselling staff. 3. Prepares work schedules and other operational duties, ensuring adherence to the appropriate collective agreement. Approves vacation and leave applications; approves time records for submission to payroll. 4. Recruits staff and conducts performance appraisals. In conjunction with the Regional Services Clinical Manager and Human Resources staff, participates in progressive disciplinary action as required. 5. In conjunction with the Regional Services Clinical Manager, develops and monitors the budget for Patient and Family Counselling 6. Collaborates with the PSO COP in the development, implementation and communication of evidence based provincial psychosocial practice standards, guidelines and procedures and clinical tools. 7. Works in conjunction with the PSO COP to develop and maintain centre professional standards regarding training, staff education, quality management, workload, patient care, and research. 8. Creates and implements clinical programs, resources and services in consultation with regional and provincial program priorities +. Counsels patients and families concerning psychosocial concerns of advanced complexity through individual, family, and/or group sessions. 10. Provides consultation to other disciplines regarding psychosocial issues as a member of the interdisciplinary team. 11. Identifies patient and family needs for services and makes appropriate referrals, or develops alternate strategies for patient support, education, and follow-up care. 12. Acts as a member of the Psychosocial Oncology Communities of Practice. 13. Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing clinical consultation, promoting and maintaining relationships with other disciplines within the cancer centre, host hospitals and related community programs to meet patient care and educational requirements. 14. Leads the regional implementation of the program's quality improvement program by performing activities such as providing input to the planning process for evaluation. Maintains, compiles, and reports workload statistics and clinical reports consistent with established quality improvement standards. 15. Creates funding proposals and program evaluations. Works in conjunction with the Psychosocial Oncology COP to develop an integrated clinical and research program between provincial/national initiatives and regional programs. 16. In collaboration with the PSO COP, provides education and training opportunities for staff. 17. Participates in teaching activities on psychosocial oncology practice and research by preparing lessons and materials and teaching health care professionals, students, and public. Provides clinical guidance to graduate level psychosocial oncology students, other students, and volunteers as required. 18. Participates in planning and development of educational activities in the Centre and designated outreach programs such as in-service programs and clinical network meetings. 1+. Provides consultation to programs and members of the Regional Cancer Centres and provincial tumour groups concerning psychosocial research through activities such as identifying research priorities, developing, and applying for research grants, implementing research projects, and participating as an investigator/collaborator in interdisciplinary collaborative research. 20. Maintains current knowledge and awareness of trends and activities in clinical practice including individual counselling methods, family therapy, group dynamics, relaxation therapy, and other treatment modalities through activities such as attending conferences and workshops, clinical supervision and reviewing journals. 21. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience • Master’s degree in a social sciences discipline relevant to the job from a recognized program, such as Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or Clinical Psychology • Five years of experience in an interdisciplinary health care setting, including two years in an administrative/supervisory position, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience deemed appropriate by the Agency. A minimum of two (2) years experience in an oncology setting is preferred. • Eligible for registration with designated professional regulatory body or association. Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills necessary to establish effective liaison with members of the interdisciplinary team, the host hospital, community agencies and the public. • Demonstrated knowledge of community, social and health care programs. • Expertise in research design, statistics, psychosocial research methodologies and measurement • Demonstrated ability to use computerized systems and statistical software applications. • Demonstrated planning skills necessary to develop, manage and evaluate effective clinical programs. • Demonstrated leadership skills necessary to provide clinical direction and consultation to staff. • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of an interdisciplinary team. • Demonstrated ability to organize work, establish and meet priorities and be self-directed. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. • Demonstrated skills in CPR techniques.
