Qualifications
We need a legal/compliance professional who can think creatively, pivot quickly to address daily questions, and confidently offer clear guidance
Our ideal candidate is personable, adaptable, organized, and comfortable with mortgage lending
To excel in this role, strong communication skills, the ability to handle a regulatory-focused legal role, and effective management of multiple priorities and deadlines are essential
A post-baccalaureate paralegal certificate or associate’s degree in paralegal studies and/or a paralegal certificate from a state bar association or an association of legal assistants, or equal
3 years of experience in a legal role supporting a mortgage origination, compliance and/or legal department
At least 1 year of experience reviewing and assisting with non-disclosure agreements, and vendor contracts
Knowledge of residential lending industry processes and regulations required
Knowledge or experience working in a real estate law and/or title services helpful
Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, legal correspondence or regulations to disseminate requirements
Demonstrated detailed oriented professional
Creative problem-solving skills matched with strength in executing under pressure
Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability
Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to use independent judgment and be entrusted with confidential information
Ability to think, remember, and learn new information to apply to job functions

Responsibilities
The Compliance Paralegal will support the Chief Compliance Officer/Corporate Counsel and the compliance department with various legal and compliance tasks
This role involves handling operational legal questions related to loan closing documents (e.g., entity documents, POAs, and Trusts), assisting with vendor and non-disclosure agreements, and providing regulatory compliance guidance
Serve as point of contact for internal and external clients on contractual matters
Perform moderately complex legal compliance research, apply results to facts, and develop and communicate legal conclusions, including interpretation of federal and state mortgage lending laws and regulations
Review legal entity documents to assist loan operations in compliant loan closings, including Power of Attorney and Trust documents
Resolve complex issues or projects where professional expertise is required to apply law, regulation, policies and guidelines
Answer escalated compliance questions related to legal interpretation and provide guidance and training to other associates
Assist in the preparation of reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies, as appropriate
Maintain strong understanding of consumer compliance mortgage lending (federal and state) compliance laws
Contribute to a positive culture based on continuous learning, professional growth and development
