Executive Director - Brandon University Students' Union (BUSU)
The Executive Director (ED) of the Brandon University Students' Union (BUSU) is a strategic,
student-focused leader who supports the Executive Committee, Union Council, staff, and the
undergraduate and graduate student body. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures the smooth, accountable, and sustainable operation of BUSU and its services. This role combines strategic leadership, organizational management, and year-to-year continuity for BUSU's operations, services, and advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Governance
Work with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors to implement the annual strategic plan aligned with BUSU's mission and vision.
Attend meetings of Union Council, the Executive Committee, and affiliated organizations as a resource and advisor.
Provide year-to-year continuity of BUSU operations and administration to support new executive teams and maintain institutional knowledge.
Abide by BUSU's Bylaws and governing documents.
Support the Board and Executive in understanding and applying BUSU's democratic and operational structures.
Executive & Council Support
Collaborate with the Executive Committee to implement their annual priorities and initiatives.
Provide support to the Union Council in governance, administration, and operational matters as required or directed.
Oversee executive responsibilities in conjunction with the Executive Committee, including, but not limited to: the Annual Budget, student services, promotional materials, and the operations of Baileys and the Knowles-Douglas Centre (KDC).
Office & Staff Management
Oversee the general day-to-day operations of the BUSU office.
Hire, supervise, and train office employees and assistants.
Enforce administrative policies and procedures while fostering a positive, student-focused workplace culture.
Provide administrative support to all BUSU departments and ensure consistency in office functions and staff performance.
Finance & Administration
Maintain up-to-date financial, management, and administrative records for all BUSU operations.
Oversee, in tandem with the Executives, the preparation, but not limited to: financial statements, reports, cheques, deposits, and balance cash-outs for BUSU, Baileys, and KDC.
Oversight, in tandem with the Executives, of the operations of Baileys.
Oversight, in tandem with the Executives, of the responsibilities of the Bailey's General Manager.
Ensure timely and transparent financial reporting, including, but not limited to: monthly and annual reports.
Ensure financial sustainability through budget planning, forecasting, and oversight of spending and deposits.
Communications & Services Oversight
Provide leadership and oversight to all BUSU services, ensuring compliance with bylaws, regulations, and strategic priorities.
Assist with or lead the execution of campaigns, orientation events, and other student engagement activities, including but not limited to: welcome week, advocacy campaigns, and annual general meetings.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are considered assets; however, BUSU is committed to training the successful applicant in areas where needed:
Experience working with a Board of Directors and/or in a not-for-profit environment.
Understanding of accounting principles; experience with QuickBooks or similar financial software is an asset.
Experience working with bylaws, policies, and procedures.
Familiarity with the student movement or student union governance.
Knowledge of Brandon University and its campus culture.
Demonstrated supervisory or management experience.
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mac OS)
The successful candidate will be required to sign an employment agreement governing the employment relationship on terms mutually agreed upon between the parties
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
