Step into a supportive team and collaborate with highly knowledgeable colleagues.
Expand your capability and gain exposure to reporting requirements uncommon to most of the Australian Government agencies
Non-ongoing opportunity of 7 months, with the possibility of extending to 12 months

The Library is seeking an experienced and motivated professional for an EL 1 Assistant Director, Financial Accounting role.
This is a non-ongoing opportunity from 17 July 2025 until 12 February 2025, with the potential to extend up to 12 months.

The Role
This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a small team during a critical period, playing a key role in financial management in a cultural institution.

While the role involves standard public service reporting, it also includes distinctive elements such as managing collection and heritage asset portfolio.
You will manage a team of five and report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Your key deliverable during this period will be the preparation of the annual financial statements in the Library’s Annual Report. This includes working with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) to complete the end-of-year audit, as well as attending the Audit and Enterprise Risk Committee and Library Council meetings to provide support and additional financial insight when required.

Our ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and accuracy and will be responsible for delivering meaningful reports to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including the Department of Finance and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications Sports and the Arts.

You will oversee end-to-end accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries and maintenance and timely and accurate month-end-closure.

To succeed in this role, you need a strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and solid technical accounting skills. You will also need to show initiative and have the desire to improve business processes by working with stakeholders across different branches.

As our ideal candidate you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff members. You will demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate a team, providing guidance and support to team members to achieve goals.

The Opportunity
This role is available to ongoing National Library of Australia and APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (acting) opportunity from 17 July 2025 to 12 February 2025, with the possibility of extension to 12 months.

The preferred candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.

Please discuss the possibility of release with your manager before applying.

Please contact Tina Yin at yyin@nla.gov.au for any queries about the vacancy.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples, LGBTIQA+ people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and mature age people.
