Tiakina te anamata, mā te tūhono i ngā tāngata me ngā wāhi o te inamata. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today.
Mercury is a bold future-focused organisation, providing energy and telecommunications to more Kiwi than anyone else, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. At the heart is our purpose which pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, our communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are relentless in our focus to keep our people and the community safe. We look after each other and the lives of our people come a clear first. This is not a one-year or five-year strategy - this is forever.
Our Opportunity:
We're looking for a seasoned Senior Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to join our Generation team and play a key role in executing Mercury's HSW strategy. This is a hands-on, site-based role where you'll be deeply embedded in our operations, working across high-risk environments and partnering with frontline leaders to embed safety excellence.
You'll be part of a rapidly evolving business, with the opportunity to make a real impact while enjoying some of the most beautiful workspaces in Aotearoa - right along the Waikato River.
There is flexibility for this role to be based at one of our Generation sites or at our Tauranga, Rotorua or Hamilton offices.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Execute Mercury's HSW strategy across our generation sites, ensuring safety is embedded in every decision and action.
Lead critical risk management, assurance activities, and incident investigations.
Provide expert, practical advice to frontline teams and contractors.
Champion our safety systems and support performance reporting.
Drive engagement in safety training, cultural programmes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
We are looking for:
A doer, not just a thinker - someone who rolls up their sleeves and gets stuck in.
Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar HSW advisory role, ideally in the energy or high-risk industrial sector.
Strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act, insurance activities, and internal frameworks.
Confident operating in rapidly evolving environments and partnering with diverse teams.
Based in or willing to relocate to Central Waikato, with flexibility for hybrid work - though most of your time will be boots on the ground at our stunning generation sites.
Mercury offers (full benefits are listed on our Career Page):
Additional 5 days leave per annum (MyDays)
$400 one off tax-free payment towards setting up your home office
A diverse workplace where your unique abilities and talents will be recognised and encouraged
Annual salary reviews with excellent parental leave policy, with the option to purchase additional leave
The opportunities, career paths and facilities associated with working for one of New Zealand's largest multi-utility providers
Flexible working policy - The autonomy and trust to work flexibly from our purpose-built premises and from home, recognising the value of this flexibility in the modern world
Discounted health insurance and free life and income insurance
Excellent well-being programme including up to $100 annual check ups and confidential assistance programme
Gender affirmation leave and supportive bereavement leave to be taken when you lose anyone close to you, including your pet
