The Organization:
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to reaching every Canadian affected by a brain tumour through advocacy, research, information, support, and education. We are a committed team of staff, volunteers, and health care professionals working together to find the cause of and cure for brain tumours, while improving the quality of life for those affected.

Serving those impacted by both malignant and non-malignant brain tumours, we place hope, support, and community at the core of all we do. Our approach is grounded in strategic thinking, data-informed decision-making, and a deep respect for the lived experiences of the individuals and families we serve.

The Role:
As the Manager of Finance & Operations, reporting directly to the CEO, you will be a strategic leader responsible not only for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, but also for identifying and implementing opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability. This position demands a proactive mindset, strong analytical capabilities, and a collaborative spirit. You will contribute to strategic planning, support key operational initiatives, and ensure financial practices align with the organization’s values and objectives. Your work will help strengthen our capacity to serve the brain tumour community across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

Reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly donation batches to financial records with a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
Lead accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment processing, and bank deposits, ensuring smooth day-to-day financial operations.
Serve as an administrator for Financial Edge, overseeing integrations with the CRM and implementing best practices for internal controls and data management.
Partner with the Development and Programs teams to ensure precise tracking and reporting of restricted funds, aligned with donor intent and strategic priorities.
Prepare and analyze monthly bank reconciliations and financial reports to inform executive and board-level decision-making.
Provide insightful financial and operational analysis to guide performance optimization and goal achievement.
Collaborate with external partners such as auditors, legal counsel, financial advisors, and vendors to maintain transparency and compliance.
Prepare timely and accurate financial documents and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including audit packages.
Monitor financial performance, ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards and regulations, and make proactive recommendations to adjust course as needed.
Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to maintain and evolve financial policies and procedures that support strategic and operational excellence.
Support the development, monitoring, and management of the annual budget in collaboration with the CEO, Finance Committee, and Board.
Contribute to the organization’s strategic planning and operational decision-making processes.
Foster a culture of learning, accountability, and community-centered engagement within the organization.
Help maintain and improve IT systems, financial databases, and internal workflows to support a data-informed culture.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, financial, and ethical standards.
Lead the development and implementation of risk management strategies to protect the organization’s assets and operations.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of financial transactions, operational activities, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
Proven experience in financial and operational management, ideally within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Strong understanding of nonprofit financial regulations, accounting standards (including fund accounting), and CRA requirements.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and act proactively to identify and solve organizational challenges.
Highly analytical with a strong aptitude for leveraging financial data and performance metrics to inform decisions.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear, compelling way to a variety of audiences.
Collaborative mindset and interpersonal skills to build strong, trust-based relationships across teams and with external partners.
Technologically proficient, with experience in financial systems (e.g., Financial Edge), CRM integration, and Microsoft Office tools.
Experience developing and implementing internal controls and operational improvements.
Demonstrated leadership ability and experience inspiring and supporting others to achieve shared goals.
Vulnerable Sector Police Check required.
